Crew cab. Use it or lose it.

Not to beat a dead horse or start a debate, but . . . . .

I still think a good old Q-jet, set up by someone who really understands how they work, would give you the best power and economy of all the carb choices :wink1:

NO! HOLLEY! ummm EDELCRAP! ummmm WEBBER! I MEAN ummmmm... whatever

Bringing the ghey.

Ahh, I see! :haha: Actually I did know that, just playin' dumb.

I do have a quadrajet that came off a cadillac 500. It had crossed my mind ever so briefly.

Wrench, you said it right, "set up by somebody who understands how they work." I think if you apply that to any of the popular carb choices the results should be the same. If not, they should be. In the end doesn't it all come down to a specific amount of an exact air/fuel ratio that we're after with these carbs? The key is always setting them up correctly and once that is achieved I don't think the combustion chamber much cares who's doing the measuring.

To take it one step further, the fuel injection systems are still doing just that. Biggest difference is the "guys" who are setting it up ride under the hood while you drive it and continually monitor things to make adjustments along the way, keeping that mix and amount exactly right all the time regardless of ambient conditions and requirements.

Just my take on the debate.

For a street application your absolutely correct, It's the closet thing to fuel Injection you can get......... But I'm Biased LOL I run JET q-jets on Nearly everything I own

Ok I'm going to throw in some intelligent thought about the issues at hand

My 2x6 gets 6 mpg no matter what I do to it towing driving putting around still is 6 and its on Propane, gas isn't much better maybe 10 mpg, haven't really ever figured it out. I would suspect with the tire combination and the non stock motor that your running if your getting 7 mpg its not going to get much better.

My vote is the cummins fix, that is what my plan is to do. I have accepted that sounds like you may need too to :D

What are they for?

Old buicks(40's and 50's) had these on the fender showing whether it had 8 or 6 cylinders. A lot of "gansters" now a days put them on whatever they have and don't even know what they represent. I have seen 8(4 on each side) on 4 cylinder and 6 sylinder cars, trucks, suvs, etc. But as stated before, it brings the ghey.

So, are you troubleshooting the caddy, moving on, or troubleshooting the caddy while gathering parts to move on?

Yep . . . but the Q-jet is far more advanced/complex than the other carbs in how it meters fuel based on load conditions. Most carbs essentially use X amount of fuel until Y load, then they dump in Z amount of extra fuel. Simple, works, not too efficient. The q-jet enriches the mixture in multiple stages as different load conditions occur, and every system can be adjusted. If you're up for some good reading . . . .
