Cricket in new engine

I'm waiting to hear back from the warranty contact after I sent pictures yesterday afternoon. I'm wondering if they'll want more investigation done or what. I didn't feel how deep the marks are, but I'm thinking this isn't something that can be fixed without tearing the engine down.

Either way, I probably won't be driving the C10 for a while, which makes me sad. I look forward to driving that thing.

I've been thinking back about whether there were any indications what was going on aside from the squeaking noise. Most recently, I remember noticing an oil smell when I was stopped for a bit which could be explained by a piston ring issue. I don't think the squeak was there from the start but I remember noticing it after about 200 miles were on the engine. Initially it wasn't as loud as it was in the video I uploaded and at first it sounded like the noise my speedometer would make sometimes before I lubed the cable. It took me a little while to realize it was changing with RPM and not speed; which is kind of hard to figure out since the 2 things are generally linked. Plus you really couldn't hear it over the radio even listening to podcasts.
 
Sucks, and yet another reason, at least to me these crate engines seem to really be a roll of the dice... probably not a huge issue to all sponsored YouTube bros (another annoyance these guys are) and deep pocket builders but for the average guy, it's really a hassle and a pain in the ass.

Now you have to do a ton of BS and all the while, the c10 will just sit. It's really too bad they can't build better engines or have at least better attention to detail.
 
The way I look at it is shit happens. Every one has an off day and makes a mistake that might not show up until later down the line. We are human, mistakes happen. How the manufacturer treats you is what makes the difference to me. Take care of the issue for me and all is forgiven. Give me the run around or deny it for some bs reason and I’m done with you.

That is exactly my philosophy. I'm crossing my fingers they don't give me the run around.

I was pretty leery about buying a crate motor. I've had a few engines built by a local machine shop and not had a problem. In this case I wanted specific things that made the crate motor option more appealing. At least I'm fortunate enough to have alternate transportation. But being inherently lazy, I'm not looking forward to mostly likely doing another engine transplant.
 
At least you know none of the bolts will be rusty tight.

What sucks is, they will make you create the engine and send it back. Wait until they inspect it, repair old build you a new one and send it back. I see a month of down time on top of what you already have.
 
Everyone does have an off day, for sure. But we don't have idle time to mess with this crap. At least I don't. You buy an engine for a few grand and have to pull it for someone's off day 300miles later. I say, no.

Now he has to pull the engine, ship it... wait... wait....wait... get it back, install it and hopefully all is well? To me, that's some BS.. they hopefully honor the warranty and don't work their way around some lame technicalities

Totally agree. Stuff does happen. What matters is how they take care of you.

I'm really curious if they will want it back as is so they can do the teardown and find the issue in-house. Just to take outside variables out of the equation.

One way or another the engine will have to go back because of the damage to the cylinder.
 
I feel your pain. I did a crate snowmobile engine last winter to save time. Blew up on the first pull, rings didn't seat and scored the cylinders. Looked a lot like your picture actually. I got a new engine from the builder but nothing for my time. It was time I didn't really have. Late nights at the shop thrashing until midnight just to have to do the whole job again. I also lost all the time in shipping, inspection, waiting for the rebuild, shipping back, etc. I hope they do right for you. The fine print on my engine ordeal cost me shipping and all my time.
 
Dang, you have had some serious back luck lately.

Hoping it gets figured out for you.
 
Was this a rebuilt engine or one of the fully new units? At least they list the create engine as a fully new, including the block.
A create engine is not a rebuilt engine just because it comes in a create.
