CUCV mild usage build. Nothing radical here, move along now.

interesting drive to the shop today. Driving into a nasty head wind. Couldn't top 45 mph.

Still windy on the way home and 55-60 was so easy.

You should have more power than that. I've been driving the Fire Truck a bunch lately and it easily keeps up with 65 mph traffic on 37s, which if I recall correctly, you are also?

My blazer always struggles at highway speed though....

I got no problems going 55-60 any other time. It was all the head wind. Another guy told me his automatic was staying kicked down into second gear to pull 55. This was in a jeep I believe.

picked up a dash pad and bench seat from a local guy. This will have to suffice till I can get time to put an aluminum dash in. That could be a good long time out.

New rubber floor mat is on the way and i'll swap out the bench seat at the same time.

Nope, almost though. There is a damaged spot right on top center. Like something was dropped on it. Couple other little dings. Missing 4 of the 6 metal clips that hold the front edge down.

New seat is in as well as the floor mat and new insulation underneath. Installed new aftermarket sun visors. Can't say I'm thrilled about those just yet. They aren't as tight as the originals but if you bend the rod a bit, they tighten up.

About the seat. It's a little bit different than what im used to in a pickup. It seems more laid back. Not a bad thing just different.

Truck just keeps getting a little better all the time.

Never ceases to amaze me, how many guys approach you when you're driving and old Chevy truck.

Been making fairly regular trips to the local home improvement chain store, picking up what not for the garage. The first time it was the guy at the guard shack. Asking questions about the truck. Another time it was a fellow customer. Tonight it was to of the employees. One of them making cash offers. Unfortunately, for what you can get out of one, what would you get that would replace it? He was also suggesting a trade for a Harley Chopper. Got no need for that. Can't haul plywood on a motorcycle.

before I left Wyoming my oil distributor rep offered me $8K for my 72 K5, it was tempting but I bought it for my son when he was 3 and he already knows its his, hell he gets mad when I drive it lol.

A lot of guys start a conversation with me about my 'burbs. Cool old trucks have an universal appeal to the young boy in us all....

So, been having some charging issues that last while here. Had a Gen 1 light flickering and decided to replace the alternator on the drivers side. That helped but didn't fix the problem completely. Limped along like that for another week or so and started getting the gen 2 light and then some noise from the engine bay. Opened the hood to find the passenger side alternator spewing aluminum bits. Apparently when the bearings go out and go out for a long enough period of time, the shaft will seize on the bearing and the bearing then rolls on the aluminum case. Not good.

Fast forward to the replacement alternator which seemed to take forever to come in. I got the Wilson isolated ground alternators. Well, I had removed the passenger side alternator and tied off the wiring and ran on one alt. for a while. Finally get the new alt in and went to move the pulley from the old to the new and the damn thing won't come off. By the time I get it off, its out of shape. Takes another week to get a new pulley. In the meantime, powder coat the fan a nice red. Why not.

Pulley comes in and we're set. Gona put it all together again. Apparently there should be a fiber washer between the wire and the alternator. Didn't see that it was missing and proceeded to attach the wire. Start cinching down the nut and smoke rolls off the firewall. Talked to Wilson and the fiber washer was supposed to be on the alternator so they are replacing the alternator free of charge. That's cool but now I believe I have a fusible link to find and replace/eliminate.

One of those jobs where the world aligns to fight you and you just have to deal with it. Got the replacement alternator and pulley so we got all the parts lined up. Go to do the assembly and realize I've lost the spacer that goes behind the alternator in front of the block. So, no big deal. put the alternator in and wire it all up. Found a wire on the alternator that was really only insulation anymore. Figure that was my smoke show. Get that fixed and whack out a replacement spacer in the lathe and finalize everything.

At long last, the damn thing charges batteries.

Next up, new door seals. From time to time, when jumping out of the truck I hook my foot on the door seal and a couple foot of seal fall out the truck. Door don't close worth a damn when that happens.

I get that problem X10 here in Las Vegas. I cannot pull into any parking lot or gas station without someone approaching me about my trucks. Luckily people where you live are not a bunch of ghetto scum bags like here. I have come close to getting into fights over my trucks here in Las Vegas. I have had people come up to me asking me if I am interested in selling my old square body trucks for a few thousand dollars, and get mad and want to fight me over it when I say "no".
