Cylinder heads

Well I broke a bolt off in my stock converter so I’m going to just a buy a new one so wanted to make sure the one I mentioned would be ok

2k no more. They say idle but it won't begin make good power under 2k. I have a 1600 in mine and it's to low. my next will be 1800-2000.

Stall speed is conjecture, not absolute science. A heavy truck needs less stall speed than a light car. Best case is to drive a truck with the specs you're looking at. For DD type use, loose converters are annoying.

In my limited experience, an off the shelf "2400" stall convertor won't stall that high with a mild engine. I've been happy with the choice in my stock and mild applications. It works well for me, even in trucks.

Assembling an engine isn't that difficult.

Measurements and parts prep are key, as is cleanliness.
If you were going to have to buy specialty tools to assemble your engine, you can use that money for the machine shop. Have them do the long block, leave pan and timing cover off. We will guide you from there.

You should really degree cam, and decide weather timing should advanced straight up or retarded.
Those tools can be spendy. Dergreing and setting a cam is a skill many do not understand, but make a difference in ok running engine and outstanding.
4 Degrees advanced

Flat tappet cams and SNAKE OIL ADDITIVES what the hell is wrong with people today this is 2026

Friend of mine back in the day use to build lots of th350 trans for mud truck guys . He found a lot of guys liked his choice of converter . He said it was for a allison at545 from a schoolbus with a sbc power . The unit just fits inside the bellhousing and locks up a little lower .

That’s gotta be a typo.
I’ve seen full blown race motors that don’t idle that high.
My poor 8.1 liter will never even see that kind of RPM.
Sorry I’m no mechanic or engine specialist. Still trying to learn! It’s idle-5500

So I ordered some headman headers from jegs and been waiting a month and just got an email saying they on back order until April. I wanted the polished ones with the A.I.R to keep smog legal. I ended up canceling that order and getting same ones in black, did save me $300 bucks. My question is do I need to paint these because description says it’s temporary paint and will burn away? Another question is if these end up being on back order also is there a way to bypass the A.I.R tubes and keep it smog legal?

Hedman has gone to batch production on older vehicle stuff . When they get orders they make them in batches . Also i would keep the coated over painted . Search the part# on the internet with ( price ) at the end and see who is cheepest and has instock .

I tried finding them elsewhere and haven’t been able to find them. Stupid smog crap lol. I went with painted so I can finally get my truck up and running again.
