D44 Dana 44 & 14BFF 14 Bolt Full Floating Rebuild (Complete!)

I wouldn't worry about it. It looks pretty good but it is a weird angle on the camera.

Either way, run it or adjust it some more. You will be fine.
At least it is a 14FF and they are easy to set up.

I'll look at a little closer, but I'll probably run it. Thanks everybody!

I hate the fact that you've managed to, in no time, decide to take on a project, learn to do so, and actually execute it in .000000001% of the time it took me to decide to do mine.

And yours is actually a good axle... :( :doah:

14 bolts are WAY easier to setup than 10 bolts. Backlash is set by spinners rather than shims (so it only takes a minute to set backlash) and the pinion shims are under the pinion support so its just 6 quick bolts. You don't need to mess with the pinion or yoke once you initially install them (hence the removeable pinion support).

SSSSHHHHHH! LET ME HAVE THIS!:haha:

I'm pretty sure Jon already knew that stuff... and technically if you count the entire axle build... it's been going on over a year now.:doah:

Well I stepped the shim down, took a roloc disk to the pinion mounting surfaces (Just to clean them off, which I neglected to do before) and torqued her down, didn't really make a huge difference as far as I can tell... backlash is in spec at .006. I'm gonna run it.:waytogo:

I'll just save a little money, just in case I have to do it again real soon.

I'll get everything buttoned up, make sure none of my seals leak, and snap some pics tomorrow.:D

In the office today so I have had nothing to do but ponder...

There's only one shim in there... and I put next to smallest one in there it which brought it down what appeared to be .003... which took my backlash out of spec at .002 so I moved backlash one notch... So I'm thinking I might have just changed nothing by doing so, does that sound right?

If you change the pinion depth it will change the BL. By putting a smaller shim in there the pattern should have moved deeper into the gears a little bit.

IIRC the standard shim amount for a 14FF pinion support is .006", but I know they all vary a little bit.

Well the axle build is done... only took me a little over a year... and bugging the hell out of a few members here, you know who you are...:D :haha:

:D:D:D

I still have a few part numbers to add to the list, but besides that, let the swap begin!

That's covered in the first post of the new thread Rich...:haha:

Help with the axle, or come over, get drunk, and jam out to the Crue?:D
