OK I got my D60 installed and everything working. My turning radius is atrocious!

I did not add a drop drag link or crossover steering yet due to cost but will the turning radius improve with these mods?

make sure the wheels are pointed straight ahead .

then adjust the drag link to set the wheel straight .

otherwise push/pull stock stuff sucks when lifted .

what size lift ? tires ? other info might help more .

and dont do the lift block on a 60 steering arm . they suck and most wont stay tight .

35" tires, not sure on lift as it was on the truck when I got it. I'm guessing 6" though

I adjusted it right but I have a lack of turning radius both left and right

any pics of steering parts in it now ?

drop pitman/steering box arm ?

stock dana 60 gm arm on knuckle ?

flat or S-bend drag link ? to much drop angle with no correction = crap steering .

if all stock this is you limiting factor . and a dana 60 swap will net you almost another inch of lift over a 10bolt or dana 44 axle up front .

There is adjusters on the knuckles.

yes there is but there a set and done thing . should never have to be touched .

if not correct thats a good way to over turn a steering box or bind up and pop a axle joint .

It is all stock with the lift added

That's it. For 6" lift with stock steering there isn't much you can do to improve the turning radius. You can adjust the drag link to get an equal amount of turn in both directions but nothing will shorten the radius without parts to compensate for the lift.

I am curious if the bigger axle has the steering stops set for less angle due to what the joints are capable of. It sounds to me that @bassackwards noticed a difference between the 2 axles with the same lift. Is this correct? If so, there is probably something to this in order to ensure the longevity of the axle joint. Possibly the OEM was not concerned about turning radius in the heavier trucks as much as durability. ??

Which parts? I'm posting here looking for suggestions.

Do you intend to keep the push pull steering or go crossover? If crossover, how soon?

good 2wd box swapped in and a crossover kit from like offroad design or diy4x will work for you . both super good vendors here and solid products and stand behind there work .

crossover = no factory sway bar . but with 6" lift you wont need it .

Well, a dropped drag link is a little expensive so probably not a short term part.

You need to verify exactly how much lift you have so you’ll know when to stop. A 3” block will get you by if you have 4”-5”. If a full 6” the you’ll either need the drag link or a steering arm block and a pitman arm for the box.

None of this interchanges with crossover so it’ll be a loss no matter what. If you can swing it, go crossover.

The front springs have Rough Country 8002 painted on them which is supposed to be a 4" lift but this truck is tall. It seems like a lot more than 4". What is the best way to figure out for sure?

rough country = ride super stiff and wont settle out .i only remove there stuff as most people dont like the ride quality . i have a all 6" spring lift in my scrap pile right now .

as said parts to do 1 or the other as they wont swap over if you go crossover .

like i said if you didnt have a dana 60 up front before . then installing one is like a extra 1" lift .

if you realy wana go steering block use these guys kit . its the best one out there for a block . http://offroaddesign.com/catalog/steeringcorrection.htm

or do a drop pitman / steering box arm . as they dont come up used much and when they do they sell real close to new price .

i use to run a drop pitman arm / steering box arm on a 4-6" front lift with a dana 60 and it worked good for me .

if you can find a dodge stock dana 60 steering arm you can re-tapper the hole from the top down and use it on the gm axle and it is around a 3" lift correction .

I just measured 5" from the top of the sway bar/spring plate to the rubber bump stop so that seems like 4" lift. A stock K30 I have out here has about 1" clearance
So if I have 4" lift what should I do?

drop pitman arm . as its the best for resale payback i think . and its less work to install it also . 1 castle nut and 1 pinch bolt .

I just went to crossover steering on my suburban which also has a 4" lift and it made a big difference as far as improving turning radius, its still not great but much better, 22ut02ovQc692sCl+pXlcQ.jpg
