Me thinks they would have to be somewhere on the darkside of stupidity to even drunkingly attempt that feat, though I think it would be funny to watch.............and even funnier laying on the whupp'in after they got stuck on the first rock. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

"You dont need those Being reliable is a major goal for mine. I like to hit the back wood trails that don't see much use. So The mods I'd recomened would be: 3/4 Ton axles (cheaper then 1 Ton, but 1 Ton is better) and either a 4" or 6" suspension lift, and 33" to 36" tires. Now I don't know how you feel about trimming fenders, so I'll leave that one alone. That'll get ya out in the woods."

Wow, this thread has really evolved in the last 10 hours.. /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

Paul, I gotta give ya a small bit of credit for keepin fairly "sane" about all this.

That said, Here I go again-

Paul, You said you were "building" those 3/4 ton axles. Have you actually started doing anything to them? Or are they still sitting untouched at the top of your driveway in front of your blazer where they were sitting six months ago? My money is on them still sittin there. /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

And for those that insist on the 1/2 ton stuff, and think that all ya gotta do is carry extra shafts to replace the broken stuff..I ask you guys this- Have you ever been on a trail 50 miles from anywhere with a bunch of drunk and [I love Jeeps] Jeepers behind you while your're trying to fix your broken axle shaft? No thank you. Most "non fullsize" guys already have an elitetest attitude with the fullsize crowd and think that we don't belong on thier trails. It sucks, but thats the way it is. So do you want to be the one holding up a line of 20+ Jeeps/Toys etc etc, while you fix your broke half ton junk? They aren't only impatient, they're a$sholes about it too. I almost bashed one on the head with a rock on the 'Con a couple weeks ago for the exact reason I'm talking about. Now I realize that not everyone wheels trails like the 'Con with the dick head Jeep guys etc to worry about. So for these guys I add this- Have you ever changed an axle shaft, or a u-joint or whatever on a trail in the dirt, and not at home in the driveway or the shop? I'm tellin ya, IT SUCKS. 99% of the time it'll either be hotter than hell or colder than a witches tit, or rainingg cat's and dogs, You forgot your tools, the truck is held up by a hi-lift sitting on boulders stacked in a pile, you got dirt in all the bearings, you dropped a u-joint cap in the dirt/mud/water and all the needle bearings went everywhere, You don't have a hub socket, the broken u-joint thrashed a ball joint, the ball joint broke, and the knuckle is now trashed. Or any one of a million other things. My point to all this is- Not only is 1 ton stuff alot less prone to break, but it gives you what I think is one of the most important things you could have, Piece of mind. I want to wheel my junk, I don't want to be tearing it apart to fix broken stuff. That is all. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

[/ QUOTE ] At the momment they're up in a friends garage (I don't have a garage here). The 44 is dissasembled, waiting on the new gears and overhaul kit. Kinda sucks not having the money too do everything right away, but that's life, bills come first. Hopefully if I quit smoking like I'm trying too do, I'll have a few more bucks for parts.

With PRIORITIES in mind, I can't sink every last cent into the K5. I also have a household too think about. The home theater equipment I bought gets alot of use, so it was well worth it.

There's life outside of Chevy trucks? Where? I'd like to find it.

You guys seriously need to relax. This post looks like something you'd find on Pirate or something. I can't believe I just read this crap on CK5.

Back to the topic...the only thing I can tell you is that so far , my dana 44 with trac-lok, and stock axle shafts/napa u-joints has held up with no breakage running 35" tires. I am fairly easy on it and don't go wheeling all the time. I don't think I'd want to go any bigger than 36" tires, and I definately don't want to put money into it to try and make it run 38" tires because it will probably let me down and just piss me off /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I have broken a 12 bolt axle shaft in the pouring rain... At the mall. /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif /forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif

why does the PBB have such a bad rap? cuz they talk smack if your a mall poser like me? Jeeezus, the GFY racing forums make the PBB look like Kindergarten.

Here, just like PBB:

for me the level of 'smack' (your term not mine) BS is too thick to bother trying to sift for tech.
