dana60 death wobble with hydro assist now...yikes. Updated 11/27

I run cross over, high steer, 52s, 7" shackles and 7 degree shims on my D60 - EVERY time I have had DW it's been junk tie rod ends.......

It's not just one factor weighing in here.

Low positive caster can make it more prone to dw when the tie rod ends and other joints are bad.

If you have zero or negative caster, you could probably get dw on a brand new truck though.

I'd check the caster angle first since you have such big angle shims, but I'd also check for play in all steering components as well.

well finally got around to working on the truck, and i removed the shims, and im still getting death wobble. theres no unusual weight in the truck or anything. even tried rotating the tires, no improvement.

what could have happened that it drove perfectly fine one day, then the next day it gave me dw a couple different times, and then the next day dw constantly? i was thinkin bolts had come loose, but all the ones i checked seemed to be tight. any ideas? could the kingpins go out like that? how do they typically act when they go bad? all at once or over the course of a couple days or longer and i just didnt notice it? its really driving me crazy. i wana drive my stupid truck :zombie13:

i guess TRE's should be the next thing i check? before i buy new ones, how can i check the ones ive got to see if they are good?

Check your frame for cracks, my buddy had a nasty death wobble at about 25 mph and we pulled it into the shop and BAM a couple fat cracks, so i welded them up and fixed the problem.

hopefully its not a crack in the frame, my frame is in very good shape, still has the factory underspray, except for where ive grinded off for welds.

Have you tried fender washers in the caps? Thats what I did and its fine.

yea i had 2 fender washers in the caps before, then replaced the springs and bushings and left 1 fender washer in each.

adding ballistic's springless arms would be the next step in eliminating the king pins as a problem, next I would try spring bushings...

ive got northwest fab reverse hi-steer arms, they were a pretty penny so id rather not switch arms.

if the draglink isnt completely parallel, could that cause the bad death wobble? ive got 2 holes on the pass arm, and its currently not parallel. i'll try the other hole and see what happens

Put another washer or 2 under the caps. I have 2 under each cap with new springs and bushings.

i'll throw 2 more washers under the arms this weekend. ill check the new bushings and springs that i just put in there and make sure they arent messed up. if that doesnt work then what? haha

go check my link i posted. the stock plastic bushings have slop for fitment in the knuckle.

the bushings mad mac makes fit super snug in the hole on the knuckle. makes for a lightly tapping in the bushing to seat up.

guys have said thay tryed most all the options out there. then tryed his and fixed it.

check him out on pirate mad mac screen name. he has a huge sale thread on these in there sale section with lots of good info from others.

yea i saw those, i'll probably end up getting a pair of those. the bad part is that when i went to his website, it says they are closed for the holidays until the 10th. i'm trying to get the truck back on the road before then, so hopefully thats not the problem, but i will likely get them anyways for peace of mind.

I have .150" in one truck now as far as shim washers.

can you visually tell if a TRE is shot, besides if its split in half or something? i was playing with all 4 (draglink and tie-rod) of mine and they all seem tight. 1 of them had come a little lose because the shank was through it so much that the cotter pin was above the castle nut. tightened them all up and took it for a drive and its still giving me DW. im having trouble locating the TRE's that I need, i believe they are ES2010L and R, they are what come with NWF's kit.

i hate to say this but i dont like bias swampers for the way thay make the dana 60 kingpins go crazy .

everytime i have had it it was with bias swampers.put on a set of barrowed radials about the same size and gone.

i never had an issue like this before though with bias swampers and ive run 2 different sets with 2 different axles. i wish i had access to another set to at least test it. ugh
