Dash Gauge Buildup

heres a few pics i took today. my blazer is pretty dirty since it sits outside and is missing the rear and drivers windows.

also keep in mind i did this about 10 years ago. i may do this as well in my 73 crewcab, but with the stuff out today it would be alot cleaner.

well the pics wont load.

Try using Photobucket.com or cardomain.com and for photobucket (have not personally used cardomain) click on the img link and paste in your post.. Hope that helps

Kind of on topic:

I've been having trouble posting pics lately too. I have to shrink them down till they're itty bitty to get them to load. Have they changed the max .jpg file size?

possibly, or your pictures are too high quality, such as 7mega pixel compared to 4 mp. it depends on how many little dots are making that picture up..i use photobucket or imageshack.us dependant on the image's importance or if it just a one time post or something..

i do that since before i was a member i hated not seeing pictures.

My digi cam is only 2 Mpixel (1600x1200). I have been shrinking them down to 20% (320x240) to get them to load.

when you guy's are installing new guages in teh stock location... are you tracking down the existing wires and extendign them to the guages?

IE -
New fuel guage = trace out what wires are there for it and tap into them / extend them to the new guage and clearance teh back if needed for room?

Thats what im gonna do. Get whats usable right off the original connector ie Fuel sender (I think the pink wire:confused:), temp, volts, blinkers, 4wd light etc... All right there nice and handy:D.

If anyone has a wiring schematic for the stock plug, I would love to have a copy. I've looked and can't find one. Tracing down the wires thru the circuit board is a pain.

The dash looks geat. I put the sunpro guages in the stock holes too. I just cut out the backside of the housing and relief cut the metal. I need to redo mine and add some more guages.

Thanks, Bruiser

how do i tap the power to light the gauges? it comes with a black and a white wire.. can i splice it into the other gauges i have that are previously wired?

ive got a wiring diagram somewhere aournd here, but i just tapped into the headlight switch wires for the gauge lights.

i also completely rewired my blazer with a painless wiring kit years ago.

dam i really need to clean that thing up, dirty from sitting outside with no windows in the doors

I guess I'm not following very well. Why not just get another cluster from a junkyard, swap a few parts around (to keep your odometer), plug it in and be done?

The goal is to definately use aftermarket gauges? It must be because that is way more time and money than just getting a stock setup working again.

That ROCKS man... Did you use the smaller (3 3/4"????) speedo and tach?

I love how you squeezed all that in there. That's very similar to what I was planning, with using the plate of metal to mount everything to.

I'll probably use a roll-on textured finish on mine though--just to maintain a somewhat stock appearance.

Nice work.

for me it was this..... stock sucks :D

I like the way the Autometers look myself. Even with the silver paint on the back of the factory gauges and new bulbs, I don't like the way they look at night. My Dodge Van (1984) was the same way.

Plus if you've ever tried to score a factory tach dash on eBay in decent condition, you'll be spending a couple of hundred, and aside from the tach and small fuel gauge, end up with the same factory gauges.

its been too cold and i've been too lazy.

that electrical thin thing where the 4 stock gauges which i think used to originally powe them, cna that come out? how cna i tap into the other gauges, just splice it? im ****ty with wiring, i ionly know the basics, if that..

and i think i will just dremel the stock location if i have a problem with fitment.

Thank you for the compliment:D. It took alot of cutting, but fits like a glove.
Yes, those are the 3 3/4" w/ 2 1/16" rounding out the team. I have to cut a new right side panel for the ARB, compressor & access switches. I let the tip of my air saw jump out and do a dance on it:doah:.
Duplicolor bedliner in a can should give you the perfect texture and sprays on nice. $7-$8 at wally world.
