Deulings 1985 K5 Blazer, --aka Borderline Obnoxious; Silver Lake pics and Vids

Nice, I have to go through that kinda stuff to get to the barn at my dads place. Sticky sloppy clay.

Yah a couple weeks ago it was a 3 foot snow drift all the way to the back of the barn, and we got like 7 feet between one of the barns and a ten foot drop into a creek, my buddy slipped off the edge last summer into the crick in his f250 lol, the bank gave out a lil and he just went right in lol. It wasnt too bad pulling him out though with my bosses 2010 3/4 ton, he just bought the truck and was like man, next time I gotta pull you out, make ita challenge lol.

I picked these up today from a buddy for $40. Barely a year old and just dirty with a little surface rust, flanges look great no waves. Im excited. He also has a set of allum edelbrock valve covers for me for like free so the engines gonna look sick when it goes in!!! woo

Exhaust Dump??

I have been toying with the idea of an exhaust dump setup for going to the dunes, they have noise restricitons and on certain weekends they can be real pricks about it. So i thought it would be cool to have one of these motorized dump setups and open it up in front of test hill when I get the new engine and exhaust in. I think it would be pretty slick.

I think your money is probably better spent elsewhere on that beauty. Those will get annoying real quick when you want to have fun and wheel. Vibrate the floor, shaking everything. Not to mention when they start leaking on you and you need new gaskets.

What do you mean by vibrate the floor and affect the fun? Its just a small Y tube really, and I would really only open it up in the dunes. Hmm maybe i just thought it would be cool to roll up to test and flip the switch and hear the exhaust start to roar lol.

Honestly depending on how your motor is built, it may be counter productive to you. Not having some back pressure may hurt you.

Pretty mild cam, stock rebuilt heads, i thought he said 3.75" stroke but dont quote me. You say less of a built engine needs more back pressure, or the other way??

JC whitney has the manual version for next to nothing. I do think it would be to much maybe though. Do one dual or large single system with a real muffler(flowmaster, dynomax, etc.) not a glass pack. It'll be quiet enough when cruising then LOUD when you open it up.

Hmm i see i see. My plans are to run my headers off with 2.5" to a Y into a Flowmaster, then out the muffler into 3' with another Y and fake duals out the back. I like the idea of the back pressure all mixing rather than the true dual idea.

I just thought the dump would be kinda cool because it would be closed almost all the time, but I could open it, even just partially at the dunes for a quick climb or drag race against some buddies.

UPDATE!!!: The guy thats building my engine just told me that the guy hes building one for in front of me is having trouble with paying or something so he called the machine shop and moved my stuff to top priority and should be done this week sometime. So if my tailgate worked.... lol i could throw it in the back and bring it to zimmers build and greet. Haha just kidding but that would be funny. Im really excited now, my brother wants to take my truck to prom, so now it could be a possibility for him to do some burnouts with his lady in it lol.

dunno if you saw my exhaust work, but it's got almost the same ingredients. You ot to look at the single in, dual out mufflers and run it that way. I wouldn't do a cutout, I think the loss in back pressure would hurt you more and just be loud.

Yes my buddy just sent me a link to that style muffler, that is def the way i will do it which will elliminate a second Y and more headaches. Ok Ok you guys have convinced me to not do the dump lol. You guys are always saving me money lol.

BTW what did you paint your exhaust with, and is it holding up ok? I painted my vans with some "exhaust high temp paint" and it turned white real quick.

some engine paint from pepboys 500*, they also have some 1200* header paint too, never used that stuff though. My exhaust only has about 100 miles on it.

Gotcha, yah i did mine on the van and it was rated for 500* and it turned white in like a day i was pissed. Just trying to figure out what i should do my headers and everything up in that will last a while and look decent. Im excited to do the exhaust, i havnt gotten to use my new welder very much so it should be fun.

my pipes still look good and the black is still dark, even at the header connection.
I will be ceramic coating my headers and y pipe once I'm ready. There is a flange just after the y pipe merge. From there back, will be painted. For now I'm just breaking in the engine.

The stuff at pepboys was rated for 1200-1500*. You could try that, but if you are putting in the time and money for a complete exhaust, ceramic coating it is key for longevity and cooler floor temps. (I don't have carpet :) )

I wouldn't haul a whole engine around too far inside your vehicle. If someone pulls out in front of you, guess what's going to crush you when it goes flying forward. Not good. They need to be strapped down very well, and even then, I wouldn't want it in my interior.
