Deulings 1985 K5 Blazer, --aka Borderline Obnoxious; Silver Lake pics and Vids

Great looking K5 bro! Sounds like you've got some good plans for it! Just make sure ya undercoat the heck out of it! I've got buddies from Michigan, I've seen what y'alls salt does!!!

Yay! A chance for me to be a pic whore!!!!

A bit grainy but, here's how mine used to look at a 3" lift and 33's:

Camera date is wrong, never could set the dang thing! Anyways, that's a 3" TC lift (the full ORD kit), and some 33x12.50r15 swampers on IIRC 15x8 soft 8's. Had a good look to it, IMHO. No fender trimming necessary. Now it sits on the same 3" lift (but with a 1 ton swap so, maybe about 3/4" lift from axle tube thickness) with 37's and a bit of mild trimming (and lowered bumpstops!):

Wow that looks pretty much perfect. Except for the swampers in the first pics, thats what i want, thinkin BFG A/Ts idk yet though. Anything wider!!! i hate why the rear axles on these are so short, why is that anyway?

And Yah i undercoated from the trim down on the outside, and sprayed a bunch underneat, not too worried tho, im pretty good with bondo if some rust does show through lol. And i plan on painting it dark gray this summer and it prolly wont ever see snow again after that. Only reason im drivin it now is because I spent my extra cash on it and my van would have died in the WINTER!!! lol.

I thought I would Post some Pics of the rest of my Vehicles lol.
Got the 1993 GMC G2500 Vandura. (Veronica) Shes got a 350 and gets 18mpg and can burn rubber all day!!!
The 1986 Ford Bronco II (Zeek) My dune truck.... when it runs lol. Very tempermentle, lol. http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=278246
Also had a 2001 Silverado 2 wheeler lol, got rid of that for my Blazer tho.

Paid $1000 cash when i was sixteen, and ive maybe put $200 in parts... maybe. Best investment I ever made. I work for a plumbing and mechanical company and i will load this baby up with furnaces and ac compressors and water heaters and bring them to the scrap yard. One month this summer I brought back about $100 a week for about two months lol. So she has def paid herself off. and 18 MPG HIGHWAY!! lol. Pretty awesome for a 3/4 ton van right?? lol

Also for anybody thats never been to or heard of Silver Lake Sand Dunes here in Michigan it is a must for truck enthusiasts!!!!

Heres a pic of Test hill the first hill when you enter the dunes, it looks small, but its really steep and really tall, hard to get a good pic of it tho.

Nice rigs bro! Looks like ya have some fun with 'em too! I'm diggin the van, love the blacked out rally rims, looks a bit A-team van-esque, sweet! :thumb:

Thanks for the compliments! Yeah, I agree with ya on the funkiness of the narrower rear axle, that's why I run 1.5" spacers now. I think the factory reasoning was the rear axle being narrower helps with tracking down the road and turning circle size. If ya go with BGF A/T's the widest the make is the same width I was running- 12.50. I'd run 15x8 rims with 'em (same as mine were), I don't personally like the look of 15x10's in 12.50 tires. Also, the bead will tend to stay on better with 15x8 than 15x10 (assuming all things equal on non-beadlock wheels). Nice dunes pic, I've heard of those dunes before and would love to make a trip up there sometime to wheel! Though, my junk would sink like a rock in the sand! :haha:

Yah i will go with the 8"s if they stay on the bead better, cuz on the dunes you gotta lower your air pressure down to about 12-14 psi so you dont sink. You would be fine up their, i have seen cars make it around up their lol!! Its the coolest place to see all kinds of amazing vehicles. And i would say its most likely the leading cause of Global Warming LOL!!! Lots of fumes lol

Ok so I have a 305 with edelbrock carb, edelbrock intake mani, and an HEI distributor. Im getting about 10 mpg highway.... That needs to change lol. Any ideas. Im gonna cut the cat off as soon as i can find a nice muffler to replace it with. No exhuast regulations here.

Just cut it off and install a piece of straight pipe in it's place.

Martin

maybe i missed it, but what gearing do you have? i would rather run a single 3" system than duals too.

you really need to give her a compete tune up, check the tranny. is the overdrive working? a clogged cat will cause problems too, but i didn't like the duals i had on mine.

i vote for 3" lift and 33's...that's what i'll be doing on my new '90. my '85 Jimmy had a 305 in it and got very good milage on the highway.
here's the same picture i keep posting her with 2.5" lift, 35's and 4.10's.

Well the cat is all thats their, no muffler.... so i dont think that would sound very nice lol. Plus no back pressure, which i dont think thats good either.

IT has 3.73s (on the tag) with a limited slip. I dont have true duals. THey connect after the manifolds then go back to a CAT then split off a Y near the end into fake duals. 2.5". So no muffler at the moment. I kind of like the look of duals but i think ill do 3" like u said after they connect, or maybe up to the flanges, and into one pipe, then fakes out the back, for looks.

Goin saturday to pick up a new topper for the blazer. The windows on both sides of mine are cracked. Gettin the same one with the slider windows, guy said seals are good for $100 and hes meating my half way, id say pretty good deal.

Bought this ProHeat oil pan warmer, supposed to heat 4.5-12 quarts of oil from -20 to 60 degrees in a few hours. Seems to be working, not like the truck is hot when i get in, but warms up much quicker with less idle time. 200 watts so im gonna get a timer that turns on about 3 or 4 a.m because im up at 6 for work every mornin.

Also i jus put in a new electronic choke, mine went out and ive had a tractor choke from TSC rigged up for a few weeks. What a pain, takes like 8 tries to start it on a cold morning, ive been really breakin in that new starter lol. The electronic one works so much better once adjusted right.
Also i had 5 points at auto zone and that means $20 lol so i splurged on a new gas line, mine looked pretty bad. But its pretty aint it lol. :D

Oh yah i cut off the cat today and replaced it with a turbo pack, didnt want a glass pack because of the sound but needed something straight with no offset and to give it some back pressure. Cat was decently clogged, hoped it would be worse but should help some.

I know pretty janky weld job but hey just got my first welder for xmas and have only used it once before so oh well. Flux cores kinda a pain also. But i dont have enough projects to use my welder on at the moment to justify paying the $183 deposit plus $40 fill charge on an argon tank to do solid wire. Oh well, i got a brush and a hammer lol.

This is my new setup. Got the Jawhorse (which is amazing) and welder for xmas. And felt the need to buy a pipe bender (works great).
