Why do you need a new intake?

Martin

he has an Edelbrock Performer RPM and a 600 cfm carb on his 305 right now......not the best choice for any daily driver in my opinion.

he doesn't "need" a new intake. i just want him to understand how to build a proper engine for the task.......or at least do research and make educated decisions for himself. 30 years ago, when i was his age, i made many imprudent choices....it took lots of time, money and trial and error to fix.

Well that Performer RPM is rated from 1500-6000 rpms i beleive, where i need one thats rated from idle-5000 like the performer, i think that will help mileage, well i hope lol. Im hoping that i can with the right intake and fully rebuilt 400 i can at least get the same mileage i get now with the old clunky no oil pressure 305 which gets 9. Idk if you guys have ever ran a 400 with a stock setup, 3.73s, 32" tires (ok not stock but not 35s), 700r4, NP208. But if anybody has what was the mileage??? If its 9 ill be ok, because at least their will be a reason for it.

Haha so today i was getting on the entrance ramp, i needed to murge over, so i found a space and put my signal on, then everybody had to slow down, well the durango behind me just started riding my a$$ and as soon as we got on 31 he speeds up and flips me off and got in front of me, murges over, and slams on the brakes. This forced me to go on the shoulder or my other option was hit the car next to me. Anyway he speeds away and i just laughed.
So i speed up and just as i catch up to my exit ramp, i blow him a kiss, laugh and get off:haha:

Made my day lol.
It wasnt even like i did anything wrong, their was space for 2 cars in front of him. Whose the adult here?? LOl.

Im gonna put these on the 408. $80 from summit. Objections?

I have the same ones going on my truck when it's finished, only mine are of the BBC variety. The only problems I can see would be keeping the valleys clean.

good those fords were ugly for soooo many years. Older chevy looks sooooooooooooo much better. And I like the grill BTW, I would go to that if I ditched my billet one.

Don't replace that intake, you will just lose top and and gain nothing on the bottom end. Keep the intake and put it on the 400, it's still a dual plane intake that is relatively mild, you can drive it every day no problem. The RPM will also give you more midrange power that you can use under 5500 RPM. The regular performer sucks, I would only use that on a bone stock engine that I didn't want to have any power, it won't help your mileage either. When I had my small block, it was bone stock with a regular performer (was used). I replaced the heads, exhaust, cam, and intake (with the RPM version), mileage actually went up 1 MPG, because the engine was more efficient with easier airflow and more compression even though the power was vastly increased.

Also, I ran a 400 SBC in my car for a couple years when I was 16 - 18, was .060 over (412) and it ran just fine for the time I had it in there. I had a 4 core radiator with a shroud and a stock fan and no cooling issues. I had a mild cam in it, with headers and an RPM intake, drove it everyday.

Also, PLEASE undercoat that blazer, it's going to turn into a rust bucket in only a year or two if you don't, trust me, I've seen it before. I had a friend bring a rust free truck from TX and drive it in the winter with no undercoating, two years later it was rusted through in places!

Ok I'll keep it. And yes I undercoated as much as I could and will go crazy on it this summer. Luckily it already had a good coating on it.

You know fo the longest time I could not figure out what was different about my grill, then i saw the black spraypaint start to chip lol. He blacked out all the gray, but i think i like it, ill just sand it down and redo it. Looks like crap up close.

Ok guys im making a list of what i want done before Memorial Day Weekend.

408 in $1000 (figured fluid and stuff)
Exhaust Idk to be honest I figured in $200 with 1 Flowmaster so thats like over $100 for tubing.
Radiator- Idk $200 ish unless you guys thing mine may work, idk what exactly it is though, so doubt it.
Tranny Flush new filter, I have fluid and seal and filter already.
Reese hitch $125 or so
Tow Hooks on fron - Idk price, may fab something up
Check all breaks/break lines/Bearings/Ball Joints for movement.
And Ill throw in $200 for everything that will cost more than I said lol.

So about $1725. Not too bad but dang i cant wait for summer to get here so i can go back to work full time. But man this things gonna be runnin sweet. (I hope).

you have the balancer and flexplate? what lines are you going to break, the brake lines?

oops spelled brakes wrong lol. My bad, i meant inspect brake lines. Balancer? Idk what exactly is on the engine. He told all but the intake carb and distributor....

I can see em but i have no idea what that plug is:dunno:
