Well I have 3.73s now, would it not work right??
 
And just FYI for everyone, My dream of the truck is to have it sit exactly the way it is, with:
-408 sbc
-Built 700R4
-NP205
-14 bolt rear with 6 lugs and a limited slip and 3.73s.

No lift no fancy off road stuff. I just want the ultimate DD Sleeper that can still kick A$$ on the dunes and be completely sharp looking. :woot:
 
If you have 3.73 already than go for it. If i were you i would look around for a 6 lugsf. But if i remember correctly you will have to change the perches or something because the z71 axle is a little wider. I dont remember off the top of my head.

I do know that the 8 lug sf 14bolts will bolt right up then all you would have to do is swap the front to 8 lugs and your good to go. And wheels to match the 8lugs.

yup... it absolutely would work.

on your truck like said above you may have to do a spring perch relocation. I was looking to do it on my 96 suburban for a heavier axle, but stick to 6 lug. I think they are just a bit wider...

still no biggie. (if you can weld).

I went to 8 lug though... (not on my suburban) got a new truck
 
Ahh well I got a little experiance moving the perches on Zimmers 14 bolt, so that doesnt seem like a big problem, I would prolly just cut the perches off the 10 bolt I have so they would fit to my leaf pack, unless the perhes are all the same. I would go with the 8 lug, but I really like my rims, and I wanna keep them, so it will need to say a 6 lug. I dont really care about the front axle anyways cuz I dont do much wheeling, just a little at the sand dunes, but with the 408 I should be able to scoot around in 2 wheel most of the time.

And I got a hobart 140 for xmas :)

the perches are all the same btw, except where it meets the axle, cause most axle tubes are different sizes

Yeah I love it, works really nice. And well then I guess I should be good If I can find a nice axle. Dang im stoked for summer, just asked the lady out (she said yes) gettin the new engine soon, runnin new exhaust, beefin up the tranny and I wanna get a new rearend. I CANT WAIT!!! Gonna be one sick a$$ sleeper :thumb:
 
I got a ton done today. Got the tow hooks in, didnt fab anything so no worries heath lol. I got the headers sandblasted and painted, lookin awesome now. Also got the 208 split and regasketed, hopefully no more leak lol. Also got a few of the exhaust leaks welded up, no pics because I was too embarrased of the welds lol. All in all a great day and I got alot accomplished, I wish my buddy didnt have to leave so early, I ended up being down at the shop for about 14 hours lol. I spent alot of time sandblasting and doing random little things. Also the first time I have ever taken a tcase apart at all.

Gears looked fantastic. Should the chain sag that much?? Idk much about t-cases.

And where the f does this connect to up front. It goes on the side of the tcase, but it wasnt hooked to anything in the front.

passenger side, second from the bottom if I remember correctly.
 
thats what i was thinking but the end has a 90* angle, and the bell housing bolts are all at a 45. Idk nothing was lining up to it so I just put it in the back of the truck lol. Thier must be a 45 that bolts on to it or something that fell off.

Adam,

The bellhousing bolts go straight through the bellhousing into the back of the block. Perpendicular to that 90* end on the rod.

Not sure what bolts you're looking at that are at a 45* angle.

Ohh oops i was looking at the flywheel gaurd on the bottom, thats at an angle, and that seemed like it was where the brace wanted to line up, was with one of those angled bolts.

And Kert those gloves dont like weld sparks lol. But they are still very nice :thumb:


And its FOCKIN SNOWING OUTSIDE!!!! Are you kidding me!!!:flipoff1:

on the bell housing, where it connects to the engine via 6 bolts, the rod uses one of those bolts. Precisely, it is the second bolt on the passenger side. Or I should say, the middle one.

counting from the passenger side, moving up over the bell and down the driver side, it is #2. This is where the 90* end of the rod attaches. The circle is the right hole. The blueish arrows are where your guide pins go, make sure your block has them after rebuild. Pay no attention to the square :doah:
