Deulings 1985 K5 Blazer, --aka Borderline Obnoxious; Silver Lake pics and Vids

Yeah man, thats great. Gas is still $4.15 here. I'm sure the price will climb once the dunes get really busy. I usually get gas at the the station (BP?) on the corner, after you get off 31, before you roll thru Mears. Test hill, the adrenelines flowing already. Lol!!!:woot:

Yup we always get it at BP, the 2 right in town are always more expensive and packed. The warrior made it up test hill, till I ran out of gas on top of it lol. Made it back to the truck with the reserve tank. I guess thats what 4 hours of riding does to a 2 gal tank though lol.

Oh and yes it did make it up Test Hill. And every other hill I could find lol. Its not the fastest, but it gets the job done and is tons of cheap fun for an afternoon, as opposed to bringin the truck up and using an entire tank of gas!!!! (But im still gonna be doing that lol)

And anybody looking for updates on the 408, he has everything put together, but the shop didnt have the heads done yet, they should be done by midweek and on. Im not in too big of a rush to get it in at the moment. My best bud Nate, (the one in some of my pics helpin get the 305 out) is moving to arizona at the end of June to go to school out their. So pretty crappy that hes movin away for a couple years so its kinda hittin both of us so we are tryin to hang out as much as possible. We are like brothers, and have hung out almost every weekend since sophmore year in high school. So trying to hang out a bunch before he has to leave and its been takin up most of my time. We are goin back up to silver memorial weekend here in 2 weeks for one last hoorahh camping trip with all the guys at the dunes. So if you guys are wondering why my progress has kinda slowed down a bit, that is why. After memorial I will get back to the truck a bit more, but untill then im not in too big of a hurry. Kinda sucks havin your best bud move so far away.

heres a couple more pics from yesterday when we went up to silver.

Thats awesome spend time with your buds is important. Anyways I may be camping up at the dunes memorial day weekend. I may be up there with a jeep and my dmax but no fun truck :(

I'm in Wisconsin..... Where exactly do you go in Michigan? The sand dunes there? I may have to go there sometime and we can do some wheelin' together. I've often thought of going to Michigan to ride. Let me know the info please.

Those sand dunes are in "Silver Lake State Park", near Mears, MI. Is right on lake MI over half way up the LP.

Yup, I've looked into that place before. How big is it exactly? I thought it was fairly small if I remember correctly. I've been to Little Sahara in Oklahoma and that was fantastic! Maybe I will have to plan a trip to Silver Lake State Park either yet this year or next.

The part you can drive on is 600 acres, the park itself I think is 2 -3 times that. Nothing huge but not small either. Don't go on a holiday weenend or you'll be waiting in line if you even get in. And look on their website befoer you go, you have to go get vouchers for weekend the night before to give you a "timeslot" to get in.

JUmp on the Lake Express, and your almost there!

Back to the build, you had mentioned an issue with removing the a/c compressor and not having a p/s belt. Maybe yours was missing, but there should be one belt for the p/s pump, small, goes from crank to p/s pump. The p/s pump brackets have bolts/sliders to adjust. Then the other belt, long, goes from crank to w/p to a/c to p/s. You can remove the a/c if you want (I did cause it didn't work and my top stays off 6 months of the year anyways) and still have the other belt for p/s. If you choose to leave the a/c on, there is a method to tightening the 2 belts. tighten the p/s belt first and the a/c belt after that. Doing it the other way around will leave you with belt noises and most likely that annoying loud sqeal when you turn the wheels.

Last time I used headers on a small block and pulleys like this, I used a stud screwed in to the head. Then used nuts and lock washers, one to tighten down the header flange, and another further out on the threads to support the back of the bracket and one more on the outside of the bracket and tighten those 2 nuts against the bracket to hold it in place. This takes up the space where the manifold once was.

Yah its decently sized, for anything around here it would be considered "huge" but if you went out to Cali or something or something its more like 6 big hills, and some small dune area surrounding it. Their are alot more big dune hills their than the main 6 or 7 hills but they have them blocked off so stupid people dont drive into silver lake lol. Its a blast though, I really enjoy going on memorial and labor day weekends, my family, my bosses family and a few other of my parents friends familys have all been going their since they were teenagers, and we have gone every memorial, and labor day weekend my whole life basically. Big weekends suck for climbing because their are so many people and the dunes get super rutted and bumpy, but its way cool to see the thousands of huge trucks up their. On any given holiday weekend their has got to be millions of dollars in toys riding on the dunes, its amazing!!!

But yes on busy weekends you have to get a "voucher" which are free time slots to get in, but if your not in the voucher line by 6am friday morning, chances are you will not be getting on the dunes untill around 5 pm.....
Its a crazy setup, but everyone used to have to just wait in line to get in the dunes before the voucher system and their would be 3 mile long lines of trucks and hours off idling in line moving sooooo slow....

Yah my setup must have been a little different because the power steering seemed to be fixed to the bracket it was on but I will look into it more. And yah the second part is exactly how I plan to overcome the header problem with the bracket, thanks!!!

And hey man shoot me your number and ill send ya a text when we get up their, you can take the quad for a spin on the dunes.

I believe the circled slot is your PS tension adjustment. :dunno:

Stuff looks good cleaned and painted buy the way:thumb: Hope to see a 408 in there soon. Them brackets and such need a friend:D

lol, I couldn't take the time to unbolt the accessories and clean up all my brackets. I did clean them some with soap and brake cleaner, but slapped them up as soon as the engine was in :)

That other bracket that you are missing is also to adjust the power steering. The power steering should have a separate belt with your set up, along with the belt that runs it and the AC compressor.
