Deulings 1985 K5 Blazer, --aka Borderline Obnoxious; Silver Lake pics and Vids

Well I had the day off today (works slow...) so I thought I would get some work done on the truck, but then I thought Im pretty beat from running for the last... well a long time lol. So I chilled all morning, brought some AC condensors I had in the shop to the scrapyard made some cash to take my dad out to dinner tonight for his bday. Gotta love a lazy day:D

I may get down to the shop tomorrow but Idk yet. Saturday ill be down their and Im gonna try to get to the bottom of that stupid electric temp gauge not working... Has a new sending unit and its getting power to the gauge and to the unit. I think I may try the old one and see if it works, otherwise I must have forgot to plug something in...

Also Saturday I hope to get the exhaust in, i had an Idea after stairing at some plated 3/8" threaded rod at work. I took some short pieces that my boss wanted me to scrap anyways, I think ill use the rod as hangers and connect them to the rubber hangers I bought and run the rod through the pieces of steel the PO had used to hang the old system. Should work very well, not look too hillbilly, and ill actually use the threads on the rod for what they were ment for (HANGING PIPE :thumb:)

Edit: Fixed it: Ill substitue the clevis hangers on the right side picture and use the rubber hangers on the left and run the threaded rod up to the mounting spots up top. should be pretty sturdy and allow me to raise or lower the exhaust exactly to where I want it. This system works really good at work for hanging say exhaust vent pipe that has to be pitched back towards the unit to allow for the condensate to drain back and be pumped out of the system. Same basic concept.

I dunno. I think those hangers on the right are meant to hold pipe that's not continuosly bouncing around and under the stress that those rubber hangers are for.

You would be better off with automotive style rubber insulated hangers like you originally planned.

Yes thats what im doing, running the rubber ones instead of the pipe hangers on the right, I just wanted to give an idea of what I was thinking, I use beam clamps and those hangers at work all the time and I just got the idea yesterday to use the threaded rod, that way I can easily adjust the hight of the hangers by simply tightening or loosening the nut on the rod, and then lock them into place when I get it how I want.

I guess I should have said ill substitue the pipe hangers for my exhaust hangers. Sorry for the confusion:doah:

Maybe the temp gauge stopped working or is stuck. Just tossing options out sense this happen to me once. Good luck.

Well when i take my circut tester and connect it to the power on the gauge and touch the ground to the dash the gauge goes all the way up so i know its not stuck. And theirs power to the sending unit. So im stumped. The only wire i disconnected was the one to the unit in the block and the gauge worked fine before...

you used to much teflon at the sending unit:dunno:

Thats what my engine guy told me actually, possibly not getting a good enough ground... Worth a shot I guess.

Hope to get started on the exhaust tomorrow:thumb:, if im lucky and get it in, you guys may get a nice 2 track video yet:woot:

your engine guys is sounding worse by the post.

tons of teflon tape on senders = lack of ground. use dope or 1/2 wraps max.

uses rubber end gaskets on intake . engine builders for years have NOT used them cause thay dont work and blow out a lot on chevy v8 .

whats next :whistle::popcorn:

Uuuummm:whistle: HE did the rubber end gaskets:rolleyes: And his builder is the one who told him he used too much tape:thumb:

Yes that is it. I work for a plumber so i got a little crazy with the teflon tape.

I have better luck with the rubber end gaskets than I do with using a bead of silicone......

I knew the plumber thing:rolleyes: Thats why I brought it up:whistle: I know how them guys operate...

:haha::haha:

Exhaust in!!!

Well here ya go, got the exhaust mocked up, only has 1 strap on each pipe at the moment and the tail pipes need some adjustment, but heres what she sounds like, if the link doesnt work ill have my buddy email it to me in the morning.

It may sound a little crackly in the video but that is just the Iphone it was recorded on if anything, these sound nothing like a glasspack, they just sound awesome!!!!

It had to be on facebook so I couldnt hear it:doah: I think I may be the only person who has never even looked at facebook. Hope it sounds good man. I'll hear it sometime I'm sure:D

That sounds F-in sweet!!! Damn!

WOOOOO!!!!! Thanks man!!!

I was really happy with the cammy sound it has, that was one thing I was worried about was thinking the cam wouldnt be big enough to give it that rumble, but man it was exactly what I was going for. And for like $62 stainless steel, lifetime warranty, and cheaper than flowmasters, I think I found my perfect muffler. :thumb:

Heck I may drop another $60 and throw one on the old Vandura in place of the cherry bomb!!!

Now all it needs before its first test drive, is a new T.V. cable because the old one is completely frayed and I was driving it with like 3 strands left on the cable:doah:

And I bought a copper line for my mechanical pressure gauge, the plastic one that came with it is leaking out of the fitting!!! lame.

And then mess with the temp gauge, put the dash back together, look at the valve cover leak.... Yes stupid things leaking like a sombiatch.

And throw a few more mounts on the exhaust to stop it from shaking, and It should be good to tear it up:thumb: (hopefully not the tranny and rear end right away) Also I said before this thing had the G80, because thats what the tag said, but after seeing pictures of what a G80 looks like with the cover off, I would say its definately just an open diff, so unfortunately no locker, but the open dif should be much stronger.

Not a fan of the sound. Sounds too much like open exhaust to me, not a "tuned" system. The idea is to tame out that "nasally" tone and get a smoother sound. Call me a Flowmaster fanboy if need be.:D

Ehh to every man his own I guess. Ive always been a fan of hearing that engine sound, with the really low (is that thing gonna stall out) idle.

With the cam in my truck I can idle mine down to about 400 rpm before it has trouble staying running. It sounds sick with open headers.
