Deulings 1985 K5 Blazer, --aka Borderline Obnoxious; Silver Lake pics and Vids

sounds great! just like mine... and again no video does the sound justice

Now all it needs before its first test drive, is a new T.V. cable because the old one is completely frayed and I was driving it with like 3 strands left on the cable:doah:

And I bought a copper line for my mechanical pressure gauge, the plastic one that came with it is leaking out of the fitting!!! lame.

And then mess with the temp gauge, put the dash back together, look at the valve cover leak.... Yes stupid things leaking like a sombiatch.

And throw a few more mounts on the exhaust to stop it from shaking, and It should be good to tear it up:thumb: (hopefully not the tranny and rear end right away) Also I said before this thing had the G80, because thats what the tag said, but after seeing pictures of what a G80 looks like with the cover off, I would say its definately just an open diff, so unfortunately no locker, but the open dif should be much stronger.

Not a big fan of the copper lines for the oil, they work fine but keep a watch on it, I was driving a wrecker one time when the copper broke and I burned up an engine when the oil got pumped out of it. Copper will get a weak point in it after a while from the movement of the engine.

copper will be fine, I've had a copper line in my Vette forever, you need to put a couple coils in the line to allow for movement. (coils like your brake lines have @ the master cyl.)
Make sure your ferrels are on straight and not at an angle and they'll work good.

Yup, x2.

I thought it was common knowledge that you just discard the plastic line that comes with the gauge and get the copper line. I've seen those plastic lines break off and spray an interior with hot oil. I don't know why they come with that stuff anymore.

What size tailpipes, 2.5"? They look smaller in the vid. Sounds good though. I'd like to hear it on a better quality vid, something with better sound. I don't think that vid is giving it proper justice.

Yah they are 2.5", looks smaller because of how far behind the bumper they are I think. Im tryin to decide on whether ill run them out the back, or hack them off at the angled part and shoot the tips out the sides behind the rear tires at an angle.

And that video was taken from an Iphone so.... lol ill try to find a better camera. Ive got a nice camcorder but i seem to have lost the battery charger lol

Not a fan of the sound. Sounds too much like open exhaust to me, not a "tuned" system. The idea is to tame out that "nasally" tone and get a smoother sound. Call me a Flowmaster fanboy if need be.:D
Sick of the Flowmaster sound. Not to mention over priced. Seemed like for years there EVERY Z71 and F150 had a Flowmaster exhaust on it. Just got tired of it.

Put them out the sides. That way you aren't sucking fumes in if you roll with the rear window down. Also keeps tailpipes from getting crunched if you start to climb suddenly at the base of an incline.

A very good point their. The only thing that I really liked about out the back was how all the snow and Ice was always melted off my rear window when I started it early in the winter lol. Oh well I got me a nice scraper lol. And at the moment im thinking about trying to find a cheap front wheel drive car like a cavalier or something that will drive good on the snow so I can save my truck from the salt, and I will most likely end up selling the van for funds to buy a car. Ill be able to tow stuff with the truck once I get a hitch on it, and the vans just getting old, needs new tires all the way round soon, and I just dont wanna drop any more money into it.

Sounds like a plan.

Van probably makes you seem less "creeper" too.

Never mind what you can do in the backseat of a Blazer.

There's a decent chance I may have been conceived in a '76 K5. Mom and dad did have a foam mattress that was the exact dimensions of the back of a K5 too...

My dad had a 75 K5, but I was already 8 or 9 when he bought that. that was the one that got me started on K5's.

:woot:now thats funny right der.

Alrighty im oft to go riding with some buddies, the warrior hasnt seen daylight since memorial day, and after that, ill get that pressure line fixed, and all the other odds and ends I can find.

Ok I got the exhaust all finished. Made my threaded rod mounting thingamajig and I like how it turned out. Also got that copper line ran for the pressure gauge, put lots of coils in it and its working splendidly.

But that stupid temp gauge is still not working, I took it out (water went everywhere) and took the teflon completely off, still not working. Brand new sending unit:dunno: It is getting power, and the gauge is getting power so im pretty stumped on this, im thinkin bad sending unit...

Also took another vid with my camera, pretty sure the iphone one was better quality though.
Edit: Yah my camera really makes it sound crapppppy. It sounds so much better in person, its so muffled right here it sounds like an old tractor lol.

And (ehem Heath) disregard the wires on the tail pipe, those were temporary so I could get everything how I wanted it before attaching the hangers.

And for anybody who couldnt watch the vid link from facebook, here it is again. Much better than the one above.

I dont know what the others think... but that exhaust hangar setup is hack to me.

Why did you go for that over a plain exhaust hangar? If you wanted adjustment, you just cut it to length and then weld it on. I would have just welded a small bracket to the side of the frame rail right near the exhaust and catch that rubber hangar.

I just dont understand it.

Sounds bitchen though

Well mostly I did it because I couldnt find a hanger long enought to make it up to that exhisting mounting point, and I liked the idea of a hanger in that spot. Plus threaded rod= free from work, and im pretty low on cash after all this so ill take what I can get, nobody has to look at it and its functional and not a zip tie or something:thumb:

Plus it ties the two pipes together somewhat.

That rod will flex, i pushed up on it and it bends a bit.

Really nobody likes it:dunno:

I thought it was sorta cool looking lol.

Oh well its not going anywhere so if ya dont like it dont tell me lol.

The hanger idea is cool, but the pipes are kinda way low:dunno:. Take em up about 5" and keep your hanger. Is the hanger bottom cross bar gonna hit the drive shaft when the axle goes up. Ive heard of driveshafts being cut in 2 by rubbing on something enough to cause a groove then shear at it.

On another note, I can hear it now and it sounds sweet.:thumb:
