Deulings 1985 K5 Blazer, --aka Borderline Obnoxious; Silver Lake pics and Vids

Well first its time for college tuition and books lol. I could have my tranny built and a 14b and a d60 in their if not for that lol

Gettin my cad degree and possibly welding and machining certificate later

Yah i should have gone with a more rugged motor mount, oh well ill replace them when I break them. Im planning on selling my van and buying a car so I can save some gas and not have to DD the blazer and drive it in the winter. That way it wont rust out.

Well im oft to get some stuff done. Hope to figure out that linkage running on the headers.

Ok got the exhaust shootin out how I wanted. I just cut the tailpipe before the bend and flipped and welded a coupling on them and shot out the sides. I really like it. Sounds less muffled.

Is it wheel bearings or ball joints?

Wheel bearings would be pretty easy, ball joints are a little more involved but not really so hard.

Nope wheel moves when I push back and forth not the knuckle or whatever the correct term for it is. Ive never done a 4x4 front bearing. Ive only ever had my van and the 2wd 01 silverado and those are stupid simple. My dad could help me do it pretty fast im sure and hes got the special socket and such, but he's busy tomorrow so I was hoping to get some bearings in tomorrow so I could put insurance on it as well and take her for a spin.
So if anybodys got a good thread on how to do it, that would be much appreciated. Cuz I have no idea how lol.

Thanks guys for the exhaust compliments:thumb: I really like it now, it was so muffled in the other spot that it sounded more like a tractor to me.

I have some pics of how to remove the warn hubs in my build thread after that doing the bearings should be the same as your van. It's a really easy job.

Ok thanks man I took a look, doesnt seem to bad. I messed with it a little last night and I just couldnt figure out how to get that big lock ring out.... I tried a couple small screw drivers, couldnt get under it, tried my knife still no. But im sure while im down their effing with it someone will post an easy way to do it and ill go GWDF***DA**IT when I get back:thumb:

use a 1/4" wide wood chisel. it is shap as he11 and flat on one side. works every time:thumb:

Well after spending 2 hours trying to get that lock ring out I came up with this puppy lol. works great. Bent the snap on screwdriver, made one side really sharp and it picked the ring right up.:thumb:

When I took the 4wd socket to take the nuts off the hub I found that they were so loose they could be twisted off by hand:eek1:. Luckily I only have put about 1000 miles on it since I got it so not too much should be messed up, spindle looked alright. Kinda freeked me out though.

Got it all put back together, took it for a drive. Man im lovin it. So much better than that old motor. I spun it on gravel without even trying:thumb: (couldnt get the 305 to spin on gravel with full throttle)

The speedometer wasnt working but at about 55 (my feel) I was doing 1700 rpms, the 305 was doing around 2 grand. The tranny shifts way way better now after the flush and tv cable adjustment, and im hopin the tv cable the way it was before didnt eff the tranny too much, as I said i only drove it how it was about 1000 miles. It definately feels ten times better, nice and crisp shifts and good downshifts.

fyi an set of snap ring plyers will get the lock washer out easy.

find the notch in the spindle for anti spin of the washer. line up snap ring plyers to 2 holes above that and squeaze and wiggle off.

it works good.

and the washer holes are offset in relation to the flat tab that indexes in the spindle groove. so if super close but off then remove and flip over and retry. sometimes it lines right up and dont need to move the inner nut to help line up. :thumb:
