Deuling's 1985 K5. "Restart thread on post #8415"

It's just a bushing.

If you don't like it, don't ride with me.

It's not just a bushing,I think you should look at it as two of the four structural mounts for your rear end. Just look at your diyx4 mounts you welded on, look how much those are reinforced on the bushing tube.

Seriously?

I had 6 fab bushing sets sitting on the bench. This was a much easier solution than drilling 12 new holes. And no it was not cutting corners.

And welding a spring hanger is dumb. What if I want different springs later?

I never said I was done with it. It was midnight and I wanted to get the truck sitting on its tires.

Think what you want, that's cutting corners in my opinion.
I wouldn't weld the spring hangers myself, but it would be better then that.

You yourself were just complaining about " janky " welds on the wheels you picked up. It doesn't much matter to me if the subject matter is welds or poor design/solutions to a fix. either or results in poor build quality to me.

You didn't make it clear ( at least to me) that you were not done. I assumed by the nature of the post alone that you were done. I think the adjustability concept is very cool. And maybe you will revisit it and beef it/rework it some and it will be very well thought out and strong.

Personally, I think I just expected more from you.
I believe I am on record in this thread on complimenting you for your well thought out mods.
I would still happily take a ride in the SVT K5. It's nothing personal dude.:D

No, I can appreciate your effort in making things look right because nothing you have done is superfluous.

No one said anything constructive. Just that he should've done it differently because he was a better fabber them that. Just complaining about how it looked.

thanks....

I just think it was a lazy decision, it happens... throw a few late-night neers in the mix and it's even more understandable...

he said it himself.. he didn't want to drill holes... everything after that is an excuse or justification.. adjustability, nope, don't buy it... you have the existing holes to move it back if needed at some point..

silly thing is, I'll bet the farm he had 3x's the labor in that whole project than if he had just relocated the flip...

will it explode and shoot flaming nuns out, nope... would I be annoyed if a pro shop did that on my rig, yup..

I'll be the first to chime in when he builds something nice, and he has become quite the fabricator in recent yr's..... but I will also be the first to tell him if I think he made a wrong decision... I hope we're good enough friends that he'll take it in a constructive way..

On point

I like the constructive criticism. And appreciate it. What pisses me off is people saying I'm lying about not wanting to drill holes. I'd rather not remove all the wire harnesses from inside the frame rail, because I know damn well I'd hit it with a drill.

The bushing worked great for setting up. I had it sitting right there, It allowed me to tack on, check shackle angle, break off, relocate etc....

And now if I change my mind and want to try something different, I have lots of adjustment.

You guys can not like the way it looks, that's fine by me. I didn't build it for anybody but myself. But do not call me a liar or say I'm making excuses because that's not true.

I think the biggest point is that it seems like it's fabbing just for the sake of fabbing even though it's not the "best" answer. All that aside it looks much better now that you've finished. Realistically it don't make two ****s what we all think. It matters what you think. But if we are gonna tell you when you do good work we are gonna do you the courtesy of telling you when you might not be making the best decisions too.

Anywho. Carry on.
I do like the new tires tho and I'm sure the springs will be way better for you.

I have question?

Are you going to figure in a trailering setup? Or are you going to swap tires when you get there?

The only thing you did wrong is that you took too many pics... you Hore! :haha:

Sits nice! :thumb:

Thanks lol.

I think I will probably just bring them up for weekends we camp there. The center ridge allows you to drive on the road some. So ill be fine for the 2 mile or so drive to the dunes from campground. I wont screw with them for random Saturday trips.
