Deuling's 1985 K5. "Restart thread on post #8415"

Its shoved in the back of the shop right now. I need motivation.
Currently fab tools and making money for that has been higher on the motivation list.

Ill get to it. I just need a good solid weekend to get the engine and trans and tcase pulled. Assess the damage, and see where im going.

Will be nice to clean up the engine bay, weld some more stuff in that I wanted, and fix some other things while Im at it.
-Engine cage tie bar through fire wall into A pillars is a big one. Pull the windshield, add some more gussets to the cage. I don't like how square everything is in the cab area. Id like to add some corner gussets all over.
-Pull all the shocks off and do an oil change and add alot more rebound valving. See if I can try to maybe keep up with nate a tiny bit.
-Rebuild/reseal tcase

These are the maybes if I have money and time.
-If funds allow, new clutch packs in trans.
-Rip front axle apart and figure out why my no slip locker quit locking both axles in... I got stuck twice this summer in 2wd, put it in 4, and only 1 front tire would spin...

No set plans yet for what to do with the engine?

You know July is coming up way faster than I had anticipated. You do realize if your Blazer is out of commission I'm not coming.

If you are coming, I will find a random small block to put in it to get by for the weekend if it came to that. We did that with Oprah 2 years ago. It will be running for dunefest. It better be running by April.

We're getting close to the half-way point with regards to Dunefest 2017. How's that for scary? :eek1:

ummmm... July is still 8 months away. Now would be about the one-third point.:shame:

Stop being an alarmist campy:screwy:

Early/Mid July --> Early/Mid December = 5 months. 5 months is close to 6 months, which is the half way point. The one-third point would have been a month ago.

From now to July is only 7 months unless I somehow forgot to count. :1zhelp:

Dec 3rd --> Jan 3rd
Jan 3rd --> Feb 3rd
Feb 3rd --> Mar 3rd
Mar 3rd --> Apr 3rd
Apr 3rd --> May 3rd
May 3rd --> Jun 3rd
Jun 3rd --> Jul 3rd

Granted, I don't know when in July the dunefest will be held, but the count looks good to me. :dunno:

Just checkin. I don't want to hear any excuses before, during or after the hot lap competition.:lombardi: I think one of the rules should be we both have to have full passenger capacity. (If we can coax people into it)

July is the 7th month, this is the beginning of Dec. if DF is the end of July thats 8 months.

Keeping the same engine right?

I missed what was wrong with it?

I blew the rear main on my last pissed off dune session. Oil pressure was flickering on the gauge from 40-50 on the drive up (it normally always held 50 under throttle) so I put a bottle of stp oil treatment in it at the gas station before hitting the dunes all day.... Drove it home, planned to go to the dunes again the next day, but when I got to the shop that morning I found this...

Keeping the 408 as long as when i pull the pan off and check/ replace bearings, everything looks good. If something is fubar, i will consider other options...

Id love to put a fresh 5.3 in it. But with needing to do an entire new fuel system on top of that, Id rather put that money into my business than into a toy...

Do you have to cut that tube (shock brace) above the engine, or is there a disconnect I don't see?

To pull engine?

Yessir. Portaban will take about 30 seconds to remove, and I'll put it back in with disconnects.

I plan to do some more cage bracing too. I'd like to add a bar going through the firewall to the A pillar from that shock mount.

That is a grown up statement.

I'd just much rather be spending this time and money to go towards that tools/house/shop.

Blazer works pretty well. So hopefully I can fix it up as cheap as possible, and get it together and have another 5 years of playing. And maybe then I will tear it down and give it a big overhaul.

Even then. Why bother.
Thing straight works. Just move to the next project and keep this one functioning like a chanp
