I like the way my cage is setup, but would try to make it a little closer to the roof if possible. Are you tying into the frame or just body cage?
You should try to keep your patch welds close together, maybe an inch or so gaps, then use some body seam sealer....give it a couple days to harden then do your prep and paint for everything.

Ya make sure you seam seal all your welds and seams reguardless of whether or not they are fully welded.

Gone through 240lbs of sand and 2 tips. My blazer lools likes been at the dunes already! Still got 80 lb bag left :D

so why did you waste money on a surface rust remover as opposed to buying a quality primer for raw steel? or are you POR15ing raw steel?

This air compressor doesnt have the balls to get the whole thing basted so im gettin all the big stuff with it and the rust desolver stuff will go on the rest (surface rust). it shoots lots of sand but not enough pressure to blast everything to raw steel. And it was only like $26 for a gallon of which will get used for lots of other stuff around the shop

sounds like it needed the sand regulated down a bit... it's real easy as a noob blaster to pump up the sand, when in reality it blasts worse...

oh, and please tell me you wore a decent respirator...

Yessir :D and man this fast etch stuff is some narly stuff. My floor went from all surface rusty, to damm near spotless in half an hour. Cant post pics from my phone but it works damm good. And definatly do it outside. I put it down and all the guys about keeled over from the fumes and had to run outside

I mean holy crap paul thats some nasty stuff haha. We took a plated bolt earlier and put it in a cup with the stuff. It started bubbling and took it out and it was raw steel. Very nice stuff. Dont breath it though haha

trust me, I play with nasty, nasty stuff on the boats.. industrial, strength muriatic in 5 gal pails sucked thru the engines... sucks the oxygen right out of your lungs if ya breathe it in... :haha:

have fun, be safe...

Its about dry. I wiped the excess of after half hour. About time to put copperweld on and start makin my patch panels

be careful burning thru that copperweld.. best to do that outside if ya can... none of that weldthru primer is particularly good for ya when burned... if ya have the organic dust masks with the charcoal in em, they help...

My buddies got respirators for painting, hopefully those work good enough lol

yeah, the only issue is wearing one under a welding helmet can be tough.. you can pick up a few of the dual strap 3M charcoal dust masks for pretty cheap.. like these... they do protect against many fumes/vapors..

If I may add, the 3M masks with the valve in the front is worth the extra money. Less humidity inside the mask....AKA sweat. I use them for carpentry.

ditto on that!

If your doing it without one put a fan at your back to blow the fumes away...same with any type of coated metal.

Actually the respirator fit perfectly under my autoshade :thumb: sorry no pics, the internet doesnt wanna work right here, so im on my phone. Ive reset the modem and router, that normally works. Oh well ill put em up in school tommorow lol. Some pics are on my facebook. I got the bedrails, the back of the tailpan, the outside of the b pillar where the top mounts, and most of the front section blasted and coated with the por15. Note do not use that stuff in the sun, it will stay wet all day long lol. I also layed down some duraglass in some of the holes on the bedrails and up top where the topper mounts, still have to sand that all down and paint. I got one of the patch panels made for my monster hole on the driver side, pass side still needs to be made and welded in. And i did seam seal all my patches.
