Deuling's 1985 K5. "Restart thread on post #8415"

its still in the box...maybe I can rebuild/repair it and see if someone wants to try it at the dunefest

Put a 2nd coat on the cage tonight. So i figured it get to some rust removal.

Next time you southern or western guys scrap a body because its "rusty". To me this is in decent shape for its age..... So take that into consideration ;)

This is my soon to be patented ghetto fab body work trick. I call them Bondo Backers. ;)

Then i sprayed some rust converter on and ill let that work over night.

Even had a present stuck in my arm when i got home and took my shirt off :D

Ill fix it all for real at a later date. By cutting out all the pitted areas and welding in patches. But this is just gonna be a quick fix to help slow down the rot for a little bit. Until I get to the point of doing real body work. Im gonna spread some dyna glass over it all tomorrow, then prime and gob some paint down.

now that's manning up!

eesh, that's all a bit rougher than it initially looked.. when ya get back into it, you'll really have to look deep to try and keep it under control... that rust up high can be a bear..

How did you not notice that before you got home? :dunno:

My face and arms are coated in small red spots from getting hit by flying wires lol. I just kept feeling them smack me.

I checked myself over and was surprised there was not more. One hit me so hard in the cheek, i stopped and looked in the driver side mirror to see if there was one in my face :D

It was in a good 1/8" too. Honestly im surprised there werent more of them lol. I normally find multiple after a good wire wheel session.

If I spend more than 30 seconds with a wire wheel, I wear a face shield and my welding jacket. Had to have one cut out once.

Lol yah. I laid the Mar Hyde on thick.

If it stops further rust for a year, that will be plenty good for me.

Ill fix it right later. Bretts been on my back about painting the turd. So that may be next winters project.

This is why some of us wear face shields...

Also, I found that in the "nasty spots" some douchnozzle had stuffed some foam $hit in, and then bondoed over it... So im sure thats what caused the lower rot by the hood hinges.....

Did your Blazer ever have a visor on it? My old cab had the same rot all the way down the windshield frame and into the cowl area. I'm 90% sure it was from leaky bolts holding the thing on.

Nope. No holes in the roof.

Guarantee you it was the foam/bondo job the PO did. Both sides were rotted lots right next to that and lower.

I think when i put the windshield back in, ill just run a small bead of silicone around the seal, stop most of the water from getting in, but still be easy to take the thing back out.

Look down inside your cowl and check the cowl-firewall seam in there. If the factory seam sealer is cracked or missing running a fresh bead all the way across will also help keep the inside dry.

That's so crazy. That would legit be in the scrap pile around here. I hope at some point you feel rich and have me go pick up a rust free roller parts truck for you and ship it your way. I bet shipping a non running truck from here to there would run about $1500 and I'm sure you can get a rust free roller for $500.

It's in better shape than I thought it would be too :D
