Deuling's 1985 K5. "Restart thread on post #8415"

it'll make no difference, but the rigidity of being fully caged to the frame is the big payoff.

Yup. To actually "pivot" It would need to actually rip sheet metal to allow the upper plate to move in the arc of the bushing. Daves is set up with the bushing on the frame, and I for one can say for a fact, it doesnt pivot ...

For me, I have more room at the floor for the bushings, than at the locations im tying to frame. So i decided I this would work just fine.

Tonight I snuck in the driver side C pillar tie in. 2 down, 4 to go.

Here you can see the wicked awesome frame straightening job someone did in the past, which appears to have involved a torch and a ball peen hammer......

And who doesnt like a nice tube burn :D

I was thinking about this some more last night before I went to bed and it would actually need to break the 4 3/8 grade 8 bolts and possibly the plate stake for it to be able to pivot. I also think it would have to break more than one tie in for it to be able to pivot since all the tie ins are working together to help locate the cage. That being said, I still think the bushing at the floor is stronger but I may wind up doing a combination and putting some bushings at the frame out of necessity or convenience for something like sliders which will be used to tie other cage plates back into the frame instead of having to use additional bushing sets.

Ouch dude, I'm very fortunate that until I owned my truck it was UN touched.

Can't wait to see the skinny pedal down and seeing you sling some sand.

Exactly. Only if the entire cage, floor and bolts break/bend will it make any difference.... Thats a hard concept to do in my eyes in an old blazer thats not hitting walls at 100 mph....

Dont mind all the different fire extinguishers, I have been collecting them for a bit lol.

Picked up this little beauty too. I hope it works as good as what Ive read....

Interesting battery!

Supposedly its a rebadged Deka AGM. Sounds like a really nice battery from what I have read. I always have horrid luck with batteries. Hoping this one will end that. Maybe ill even need to make up a cool battery hold down this weekend, with lots of dimples of course

IT IS ALIVE :woot:

I put the new battery in, and said well heck, I should see if it starts after 6 months..... So it started, and then I said well heck, I should see if the gears work..... So then I did a little burnout (the correct way to break in gears right???) And then nothing broke, so I said HECK!!! Ill see if it drives around. And then I said heck, ill do some 4wd burnouts and go drive up some hills and 2 tracks

And then I got the shop cleaned up, moved the buggy over to make room for more blazers for tomorrows activities :D

I did lose the passenger front hub cap, I dont think i actually had it pounded on. I looked all over and cannot find where it fell off :dunno:

Are you still missing rear lugnuts? :eek1:

This can lead to unpleasant experiences. Yes, I learned this the hard way. :doah:

Looks nice, though. You gonna make it to the dunes on time? (Next weekend is the goal, right?)

Yah.... They may only be finger tight too .... Guess i forgot that in the heat of the moment that the thing fired up after 6 months of sitting..... Oh well, ill take one hubcap for my itch to hit the skinny pedal :D

Yes next weekend is dunes. Nates bringing his blazer down to the shop tomorrow, and we got a bunch of buddies coming down to fab and wrench to get them both all buttoned up. Bolts and hub caps will all be checked

Looks killer. Good job. Did it feel more rigid after your 1st drive?

I cant say. I had like 800 tools and bolts bouncing around all over the place. So im hoping all those clunky sounds were the jacks/toolbox/ and all the random junk bouncing around :haha:

It literally started up, i moved all the tools that were by the pedals and hopped in and took it around the shop lol.
