No more money.

Can't I believe I just read this.. work some OT

none the less, do the cam, it's cheaper now then that LS later....

...and once done you will probably forget about that LS under the bench...

EDIT: your heads can take .575 lift cam! you need to take advantage of that!

So I can't do that until the heads are back on?

Ok guys I'm a noob when it comes to this stuff. Please let me know any and all of this "common knowledge" engine info that I seem to never have picked up.

yes.

Correct. You basically assemble the engine put the tool down with a checker spring to check the geometry as it hinges on relation to the rockers cam grind heads all that stuff has to be right on. So you basically assemble it for testing and dykem or sharpie the top of the valve, turn the engine over and see where you get marked from the rocker to the valve stem. You basically lengthen or shorten the length checker til you get good pattern on the center of the stem. Then measure the length tool and order pushrods to match.

Agree to this too. For the $140 you can get a new cam and lifter kits for its wasteful to not do this now. You gotta go thru and tune the carb anyway, now would be the time to build for a sand ripper engine. You already have to measure everything for pushrods and what not.

Im going to talk to the machine shop after work. See what he has to say what he recommends of the situation. I still want this street friendly, I do drive it to and from the dunes, and would like to do some farther trips in it.

You guys want me to build stupid go fast motor. I just want a motor that's gonna run reliably so I can get the damn thing out of the garage. This "might as well" snowball talk is what turns builds into years without playing. Which is not what I like.

Hell, it costs $15 to magnaflux the 882s a piece, and not much longer for them to check them over. If they are good and don't need work, I could just bolt the thing back together and go play and be perfectly happy.

Look duder. You can either agree with us or you can just be wrong.

Normally I'm all about doing just what's required to get back rolling again, but your already disassembled that far, not taking advantage is just poppy cock

I don't think an opinion can be correct or incorrect.

I was never unhappy with the power it made before.... And now that I know my carb tune was way off, I know even as it was it had lots of power to be gained....

I will talk to machine shop after work. Like I said.

That's fair enough. But the other thing is no one is saying a trailer queen race engine. But there is no arguing that making use of the higher lift available would net you more power and torque while maintaining street ability.

Everyone else is throwing their opinion in so I'll toss mine in as well. If the original heads are good, throw them back on, reassemble, drive. Gather parts and money for either an ls, or gather parts and money to do the aluminum heads and roller cam. Either one to be done at a later date, months if not years down the road.

I feel like you are in the razors edge of being burnt out by the Blazer at this point. I think to continue to press on with mods right now will make you begin to resent every dollar and hour spent on the truck. Later on, after the burn out feeling has gone away, you will unwittingly regain the desire to make improvements to the truck and will look forward to spending time and money on the truck again.

That's just my .02c. I know you have a knack for making the decision that makes most sense to you.
