Deuling's 1985 K5. "Restart thread on post #8415"

I never said anything about alum heads.. I'm all for iron.. Mines that way, but not measuring anything doesn't make sense whatever it's your motor, it will blow up again if you don't correct the issues.. It's cool though makes for good reading :)

Exactly.... We know that if Deuling wanted to do the aluminum heads, he would need to get a bunch of other stuff in the motor first. With the iron heads, he has a known good setup and if he fixes it the right way what's the big deal?
A bunch of stuff? Literally its just the pushrods to make the aluminum heads work otherwise they will bolt right in place of the iron heads. Both heads need the same machine work so I still say its stupid to spend the money twice and do the labor twice. Besides, he still needs to properly tune it no matter what heads he puts on.

Do what ever you want Adam, you never take my advice anyway. Just look really close at the emulshion tubes that come out of the top of that carter afb. I had one fall out when I was silly and thought they were good carbs. It made one side go lean.

Oh and since you are waiting on the Lobeotomy Special swap, remember the new 4.3 is LS based, cheaper than hell with low mileage ($2500 with a 6l80e and 8000 miles), alum, makes 285 on gas and 295 on e85, and is perfect for twins turbos pushing 8+ psi.
That is my plan with my K10 along with a short box frame, step side box and custom speced prerunner springs.
8 psi shouldn't need an intercooler and meth could be added if the boost gets closer to 14. Plus on the highway it drops 2 cylinders and would get good mpg (well better). I get mixed info but most of what I find is the new 4.3 has a forged crank. Seems perfect for a 450-500 HP engine.

I like the sound of this a lot. I think Deuling needs the most efficient horsepower he can generate to better justify driving his blazer beyond the dunes.

A lot of you folks are into the big power, which is cool, but there is something great about being able to drive a truck wherever you'd like without getting slammed on every fill up. I don't mind being slow when I have some tanks that get 18 mpg vs. the 6-8 that others see.

I really want to build one. Remember I have a 6.2 just because it gets decent mpg.

No they don't. The iron heads just needed magnafluxed and he was taking the valves out and checking. He said they didn't need deck or anything. Magnafluxing costs like $15 a head.

Where are these.

And yah lets stop kicking the horse. Put it back together, I have an air fuel mixture gauge installed now, drilled and put a bung on the exhaust. Have a jet and metering rod kit in the mail. And im actually installing a timing mark and getting true TDC and timing by light and not by ear.

So no it will not be the same results as last time. So lets let it rest. Ck5 is full of too much bitching these days. I want to get back to playing, not wrenching.

I wasn't bitching, I was fathering. I wish I lived closer so you could see this is me. If you didn't have a timing pointer I am a little disappointed. Emlusion tubes push into the top of the carb, little brass tubes.

Wasn't directly pointing that to you.

I don't recal any brass tubes. The air horn is off right now.

It only seems like there's been a bunch of bitching lately cuz you damn hillbillys up in mitchagin keep doing **** wrong. :haha:

But I think on this one you got it right.

Just make sure when you do a LS swap you get a 5.3 instead of a 4.8 cuz it's pointless to do a 4.8 for the money :pimp::popcorn:

Lol:haha:

Bring on the haters

I wouldn't waste any time on 4.8 or a 5.3 those are girl motors lol if your in there might as well swap a 6.2??? Better heads pretty much better everything..

Yeah! 6.2l diesel, so you can be cool like Rich and crawl the dunes

4.3 ecotec3 with twins, the rest of those are as boring as the current 400.

My bad, I thought that you had to get the iron heads surfaced too. In that case your current plan could actually make sense. :doah:
