Deuling's 1985 K5. "Restart thread on post #8415"

I want to buy a house.

So I don't see any builds in the near future unfortunately.

I'd like to get a couple new tools and be able to actually build the interior I want. But that won't be anything I attempt until dunes are closed for the year.

House can count as a build, depending on what type of house you get.

And I'm not expecting you to build anything during dune season, I was asking more about what you'd be doing in the next off-season. During dune season I'm expecting you're gonna beat on it hard enough that you wind up fixing things. :deal:

I think he just needs to make sure the cage is all tied into the frame so the frame wont bend from jumping then start throwing more HP at it, you can never have enough HP lol

Hard to believe it takes beatings like that so well and then cruises home without any problems. Wish our junk worked that well and was that reliable. I still wanna get a ride in this thing

Tuning shocks is just something you do though. Not really a project I kind of put that on general maintenance.

In all reality neither are custom springs for the rear. Maybe if you did a spring under setup I guess.

@LESLIE1024 Adam has done a helluva job, but even though he bitched about it occasionally he really absorbed alot through CK 5 and I'm sure other websites.
He listened alot early on and found a good way to sift out the bad advice.

I mean he built the truck. Taking nothing away from him, but he let a hundred lifetimes of mistakes and successes of his internet friends help him. Which is awesome. I give the guy major props for that

@Deuling those rear springs are 57 inches right? That might be the route I take for the rear of the colorado once I get back to it.

Yeah.

What makes them nice for these, is that you don't need to move the front spring hanger due to the offset center pin. Keeps the axle centered.

Just gotta move the rear hanger back. Or weld fab bushings on it :flipoff7:

Pulled the rear shaft today. Checked joints, greased everything, and put a new rear output seal in.

Also tossed the pass rear tire in the sonic. I think I tossed a wheel weight at the dunes the other weekend. That one didn't balance very well to begin with, and it looks like it has a spot that had a weight....

I wanna go 80 with no vibrations again...

John's jeep that we took to Moab for EJS had those Grabbers in a 35" flavor and I was thoroughly impressed with how they hooked up on the rocks. Took a nice low tire pressure too with no problem.

I had them down to about 10 and they air down nice, and damn do they hook.

So I want to get some spacers machined to make my rear wheels hub centric instead of lug centric.

@Stephen I think you had mentioned to me on the phone once that you guys did this.

Are you having troubles with it right now?

Seems like you are removing one possible weak point, and then spending money to replace it with another possible weak point. Neither of which weak points are really that bad, but what are you gaining?

Why is that? They come stock hub centric, I just swapped in an axle that came with different size holes in the wheels on its original application.

Imo I was trying to get it back to stock setup.
