Deuling's 1985 K5. "Restart thread on post #8415"

SLPI 2016 or Silver Lake Prerunner Invasion is this weekend. Ive been invited every year for the last 4 and always have something come up stopping me from attending. Really trying to be able to make it and bring my A game.

I beat on it hard last saturday, and it did great.

Tore the front end down just because I know its had a dozen or so trips since Ive done it last. Low and behold, the outer bearings are shot.

These were duralast bearings I put in like 4 or 5 years ago, so no biggie (surprised actually). Stopped at a couple part stores and ended up with a mix match of National and Timkens that ill put in tomorrow, followed by checking shock and bump stop pressures, bolt check on major components, grease the front end, and make sure my zip ties are still holding the rear leaf springs together :flipoff7:

Maintenance has become the biggest factor with this vehicle anymore. It works focking great as is..... I just gotta stay on top of it, or things like this will leave me on the side of the road or worse.

Thinking of going through the shocks before dunefest. Im sure the oil is in bad shape by now.

Hell yeah good deal! It's great when you can just do maintenance on them and focus on other things for awhile

I had a set of bearing do that crap! Didn't really think about it until you said they were duralast bearings but the set that I had were cheap off brand stuff too. I was trying to figure out what I might have done to make that happen but I bet it is just junk parts.

Sand and bearings don't mix.

Doubtful there is any sand getting in there.

Got new seals anyway though.

I hope you were sure to spill some brake fluid all over those parts while they were laying there helpless!

good attention to detail Adam!

Haha ill never live that down.

The brake fluid needs to be dumped into the tools, if memory serves me correctly.

Correct. I spilled like a qt of brake fluid all over Daves fold out tool box thing. :D

Dont forget the yoga mat

I found it! Its in the chicken barn with the van lol.

Looking good Adam. I wish I was to this stage with mine. I would love to just maintain it, and wheel it.

Im kind of forced to at this point lol. I spend so much time between fixing ladies junk, and working on lots of other peoples rigs, that I really don't have time for big mods on mine. Well I could, but I think it would be down for a while.

Right now there is a d44 on the bench for my cousins orange 72,

That Orange Anglia is sitting outside waiting for me to put an engine in it

And yellow truck is out back awaiting exhaust work and adding frame horns to the front.

You just got a raise, right? I assume the new tools are already on order?

They told me it will be a slow transition, so it might not actually take into effect for a month or so.

So no.

But I have been doing more plasma table searching again. Im torn on size. In reality I want like a 2x6 cutting area, I think that would save space and cut anything ill ever need to make.

But that can be for a different thread. I believe I actually have one on here....

Got her all ready to rip tomorrow.

Replaced all the front bearings and races. I found that the pass outer that was all chipped up, that the race was spinning in the hub. It had done that when i installed them last, and i took a chisel to the hub to make some raised marks. I guess it didnt work lol. So i took some jb weld and put it in the hub, put the race in, put the old bearings in and tightened it down on the spindle to dry for a few hours. No more spinny race.

Greased the front end.

Checked all the shocks and bumps. They were all at 200, filled all to 230.

Pick up some Royal Purple in the am to top off the motor and me and @Mr.Clean are ready to go spend a rainy day with all the best prerunners silver lake has to offer.

Ill try and keep up my best. But I do gotta drive mine home, where theres are all trailered.
