went to the Home Depot with a friend. Got two of them. One for me one for him. Manager would not let us do it. He called tractor supply. Those grinders are on clearance and are the older version. Didn't work out for me. Hope it works for you other guys

I got my one from TSC today. There are still some out there in the TSC's.

I imagine HD put out a bulletin on these...maybe...

OK...I was real giddy at first when I got that black and yellow box....that was tempered real quick when I saw the "Made in China" label.
Without turning this into one of those threads about how nothing is made in America any more....I will say this...it is twice as heavy as the HF one I bought.

I am happy to have it for $19.99 but disappointed that I don't have a "great American power tool" that they used to be known for. :doah:

I have several of those and they perform well, Chinese or not. They get toasty but have never lost their magic smoke, and the cords are MUCH nicer than those on my old Harbor Freight grinders. (And those weren't even the cheapest ones HF had  )

Is that the Griswald's light bar? :haha:

I'll agree that these get toasty, I used mine a lot today and the grip/trigger area gets down right hot. :doah: It works great but my old Craftsman grinders housing never got hot so, who knows, it may turn out to be a $20 disposable piece.

Btw, magic smoke is funnay! :rotfl: I had an instructor that used to say that all the time, I've tried the joke on folks but nobody gets it. :doah:

I used mine for about 12 minutes and it was so hot I need gloves...but it didn't burn up...

Yep, gloves here too but still running.

I figured they were made in China. Most of the major brands are now. My 5" angle grinder is a Milwaukee but it is 12-13 years old, and I believe was made in the USA. It can get pretty hot at the gear box on the front but it has taken all I could ever throw at it. It is the magnum version that is rated for 2.1hp, and is the most powerful they had without going to a 7". I love the size and power, but it is pretty heavy for light deburring. A lighter weight 4-4 1/2" would be better for that. I use my IR air angle die grinder and a 3" disc for deburring. It is also 5-6 years or older and is the composite model. The newer reviews say they are crap, and of course the new ones are made in china. Mine was either Japan or USA, can't remember off the top of my head.

Anymore, I consider looking for used tools that were made in the US. I am glad I bought as many tools as I did in the last 10-13 years. I used to be in construction, but I got out of doing that, so I don't have to use my tools as often and hopefully they will last a while.

I did have to buy a new motor for my Milwaukee V28 1/2" cordless hammer drill. It was made in china and came with a new motor case as well, since the motor is different than the original. So far, it seems to be working well. I have been lucky with a few chineese products, but I still really hate to support that country or tool companies that don't support us and who don't make as good of a product as they used to.

I considered the DeWalt grinder, but I didn't see any near me. $20 bucks may have been ok for light duty work if it didn't weigh a ton.

Oddly, Makita tools sold in the USA are made in the USA...

...But with parts from China or other Asian suppliers?? :D :haha:

Does Makita make a grinder?

I've been very happy with my Dewalt grinder. I have a 4" and an 8" and both have never skipped a beat. Now I just gotta get one for each type of attachment like some of you guys do! PITA changin' them discs all the time.

Yep. I bought mine in a package deal from Abrasive trader in the Vendor section.

I haven't worked it hard yet, but its a nice tool. Big step up from my HF
