I just bought a 1970 Chevy Blazer off the original owner, and it has a rear spare tire carrier mounted to the pass. side 1/4. I took it off and it appears to be OEM. Any info?

My '72 has one and my parts '72 has the holes where one was so yes, factory option. I am very sceptical of that one holding my 33" spare under any sort of off road conditions though.

The factory spare tire carrier was a piece of steel attached to the floor behind the rear seat, it was stock but just about every one of them got removed over the course of the years.

The swing-away style was a dealership add-on, they are kind of hard to find.

Atho's right. The external carriers are not IMHO factory... dealer options, yes, but I'm pretty sure they were the Vic Hickey or Valley Industries varieties, i.e. not actual GM factory-made.

OTOH, that means you can do any of those type carriers and call it original :D

If it had a rear seat from the factory, the spare mount was behind the rear seat, drivers side. If it came with no back seat, the spare mount was right behind the drivers seat, but the same mount was used in both locations.

Thanks for the input guys. If you know anyone looking for one let me know. I'm building a rear spare tire carrier for it. If not it will probably find it's way to ebay.

You should do pretty good on ebay. I have seen those things go for $200 and up. Make sure you keep the parts that sit inside the body that the outside bolts to. Those are the hardest to find parts.

Good to know, I ass-umed that since it was on both that I have that it was factory.

Good to know I might get $200 for it too, like I said; I'm doubting it's ability to hold a 33" or eventually a 35".

I might be interested. Probably not for $200 but that's what's good about Ebay... you bid what you want to pay.

Anyway.... a picture would be very nice.
