Sm465 shift knob can't stay stock and the chrome on the lever surely can't stay. I may get my friend at www.combscustomcoating.com to put wrinkle black on it when he does the triple-stick stuff.... but that knob is bugging me.

Don't do it!!!

I'll send you a non chrome one in exchange for your chrome shifter and knob, and whatever you want money wise (well, to a point....).

Popped a top this morning but it was a little early for the ones I wanted to pop. I drained the oil out of the sm465 and douched it with some penetrating oil because it had condensation inside. I looks to be in great condition but I think I'll throw in new bearings & seals just because I hate to revisit stuff like this. It will be a pretty big hassle to snatch tgis thing back out after everything is installed.

6.2 / 4spd is fairly rare isn't it? Should make a neat combo.

Yes and no as to being rare. Will definitely make a neat combo.

It wasn't available in K5's, and I don't know about Suburbans, but it was available in pickups. I see about the same rough percentage of trucks with a 6.2 and a 4 speed as I do with a gas burner and a 4 speed.

Well, that works but there is just a little pitting on mine. I'm sure it would polish up nice though. As long as yours isn't worn out, you could just send me yours with a return label in the box & make it happen.

Pull the PTO covers and look at the counter shaft. I have been told the later ones already have the upgraded shaft, but if you are pulling it apart to do bearings, buy the spacer for the counter shaft.

It's a later updated one. Thanks for look'n out though.

I'll look what I have. I know I use to have a couple black ones.

Good deal. It sucks when they want to pop out of second all the time.

I had one once that wouldn't stay in third. Fortunately, it rarely had to for any length of time before it was wound out anyway. I still miss that old rusty dually.

Yep. I'll have to make sure my non chrome ones are good on the shifting end.

I'll pull mine & eyeball it too. That is, if I don't throw my phone through the wall first. Tapatalk is doing weird stuff so it's beginning to frustrate me a lot. I better put it down for a bit.

I have to go pick the kid up from work anyhow since his "Farse & Furious" little pee-pee car took a dump. What sucks is that he traded a VERY mechanically sound s10 for that pile of crap which now has a custom perforated oil pan. SMH... I had some hours in that s10 too. Looks like that was unappreciated so I haven't figured out if I'm gonna help with the fart-car or not yet.

Martin,

This sucker looks 'bout near new. Of course, whatever you call this part right here is replaceable so no worries.

I'm pretty pleased with the condition of the pedal pads that came with the 465. The more I look, the less miles I think are on this setup.

Started at 5pm and managed to go through the sm465. Just have to throw the pto covers on & it's done. I went ahead and replaced the shift forks because, although they looked in ok shape, the coating on the wear surfaces had began to peel a little. At $30 each, I just couldn't not do it.

So far, I only got one purple finger on this project. Go, me! Now, I'm just tired as I don't know what. Clock just rolled 11:02pm. Whew!

Called in sick and went to Pull-A-Part today to help the kid out. Found me some 1410 goodies and a pigtail for my VSS swap.
