Way Cool. What height do those 41's actually measure out too?

I will have to get a measurement once I have them actually aired up. That one on the truck is 0 psi. I still have to mount the rest of the tires and I will get some numbers on and off the truck and some more pics. I will probably do all that Sunday. I am working tomorrow and am incredibly pooped right now. Making tv is exhausting work, no joke.

You guys filming a food show too? I would guess Ian has some trick using that pan.

And those pit bulls are ballin

Haha, I knew that bunt pan was going to draw some comments. It was actually something that I had come up with several months ago when I was looking things over. The diameter at the top of the lip is the perfect size to use as a template for the plasma cutter to ride against when cutting out the old centers. It leaves a little bit of the beveled edge from the original center which makes that remaining piece that much stronger.

I like to think smarter than harder and necessity is the mother of invention right? :D

So they filmed you recentering wheels, to show how to do it at home, and then gave you a set of recentered wheels?

Martin

I got on Facebook then went to the big tire garage, was I surprised I knew exactly whose garage that is.
from the little time he spent at my house picking up the willies wagon we realized he is really down to earth and is extremely knowledgeable .
Ps. Looking great.

Yep, so doing it in the garage using a dial indicator to check for run out and the rear axle as a jig we were able to get it to .030 run out. Ian said in the filming that .030 is about as good as you can get in a garage setting and that it is a perfectly acceptable number for a trail only rig or something that at least sees limited street use but since mine is going to be true dual purpose and see a LOT of street time he said "the right thing to do" is to get the precision machine-recentered wheels from Trailworthy Fab. They use a lathe and jig with automated welder to get the run out to within .004

Now, in all reality, I think the .030 run out would be fine. I read a post on pirate that said the average factory H1 runout is around .030 before even doing any recentering so it would be no worse than running stock H1s. But . . . if you have the option and the funds, why not go with the better product? I am guessing it had more to do with creating an opportunity to advertise Trailworthy Fab's "turn key" wheels but I am certainly not going to complain :woot:

Ok, taking a quick water break while getting these all mounted up. The tires measure 41.25" off the truck with 30 psi. Bathroom scale says the wheel & tire combo weighs 188 lbs aired up. Pitbull's spec sheet says the tire is 116 lbs of that, guess I should have weighed a tire by itself to compare but its too late now.

Pics and "under-weight" height measurements to follow in a couple hours.

Ok, here are your numbers.

Truck sitting on all fours @ 30 psi tires = 40.5" tall
Overall height of truck = 7'5" without cage, fuel, spare tire, front seat, core support, winch, or half of the body panels so it's definitely going to squat some
Top of tire to bottom of rear wheel well opening = 9"
Clearance below axle tubes = 18"

Pics to follow in about an hour. Trust me, you are going to want to see them!

Man, thanks for those numbers. That was cool of you. Still trying to figure out what way to go on mine, so this helps. :waytogo:

The rig looks pretty badass with those on there. :pimp:

Looks great!

Hope you got some small rollers to get it out of the garage! :waytogo

Yeah, I may need either rollers or some craiglist rims and vehicle dollies to get it out. But then again, I am currently at 7'5" with 30 psi and a whole LOT of stuff missing that will be sprung weight so I am expecting it to squat at least 2" maybe and then I could always air down to 5 psi or less to get it out that way :dunno:

I'm able to just clear my 7'6" door with my 39.5's on the Maiden...I have to disconnect the door opener and push it up on the track and clamp it to do it, but sure beats airing down or changing tires!

Are those wheels painted Olive drab, or are they in green zinc primer?

Man, if I had a 7'6" door I would be golden! I looked into the possibility of putting in a taller garage door and it is a no go. The header is right on top of the door opening. Sometimes they are smart and put the header just below the ceiling height and then build a pony wall down which allows for future adjustment of door height. Not that lucky this time. I am having a 20'x36' utility carport with a 10x20 enclosed shed at the back end put in later this year to park this beast under until I build a full blown 30x40 enclosed shop. I will be doing the grade work in June and pouring the pad in early Fall. All the normal garage stuff I have taking up room now will move out to the shed and my wife and I will finally be able to park both regular vehicles in the garage again with lots of room for other goodies too.

The wheels are powdercoated gloss army green for the outer and satin wrinkle black for the inner. I told Ian I was probably going to do a tan on tan or olive drab color scheme and I am guessing Trailworthy Fab didn't have a camo tan powdercoat color available at the time. The green is really starting to grow on me though and the wife likes it too!

I like it too, what started out as "just cover it in Ryoken green zinc so its all one color" has taken an identity to the Maiden now...I actually took a color match to the paint store and bought a gallon of base coat in the same green zinc color.
I have aspirations of a canvas soft top and also a full weather cover someday as well...I got one of those heavy duty industrial canvas tarps for it, but need to figure out how to do the cutting and sewing...something I've never done before.

Yeah, that thing looks nice! 76-79 was a good style obviously . . .
