Well to start, this is a great forum and i've learned so much with interaction with some of the knowledgeable people on here. I currently have an 89' k5 that has your typical suspension mods (shackle flip in rear, springs and zero rate, and etc etc) and even have a cv rear shaft. I currently run 37's on the 10 bolts:eek1:. I do have a 14sf in my garage that i havnt got around to messing with yet, but plan to when funds are right along with some regearing.

My question is, does EVERYONE really have the 14ff/d60??? I know its a bullet proof combo, but damn, everyone and their moma seems to have them. My current 10bolts have a little $$ in them and have been fine (knock on wood) for a long time. I mean, if u rock crawl every weekend thats one thing, but for normal driving and occasional dirt/mud offroad, is it really needed?? Maybe its different for me since i live in eastern North Carolina, but is there anyone still running 10 bolts or just 14sf??

Why does it matter what everyone and thier Mom has? Obviously there must be a reason. Why not at least have a 14bff when they're so cheap and bullet proof?

I figured id walk the talk when I built mine :doah: :haha:, didnt need it. But also didnt go out of my way to step up from the ten bolt front. It is great insurance though I must say.

I see no reason to run the 14 bolt s.f, nothing wrong with that. And prob will break something else before it :D

I have 10b's under my burb and I believe after some thinking that it will stay that way. I dont want the 8 lugs. I MAY??? do a 6 lug 14sf in the rear but not sure yet. the front will get a little beefed inside when I get to it. But I dont see myself doing the wheeling with this truck that warrants a 60/14ff combo:dunno:

Nope. Run mine pretty good in the dunes on 10bolts. I have a 14sf to go in when i blow up the rear. One ton stuffs to heavy in the sand anyways. Ill just stick with 33" tires at the max and shouldnt ever have big problems.

Not trying to crap in ur cereal there bud...just wondering if others r running that combo and and why they may be doing so

I broke front axel shafts when I went to 37 Hummer tires. So it was my excuse to upgrade. It's not cool to have rear axel shafts break, wheels falling off is not cool.
It was also cheaper for me to pay 600 for 5 used military tires and 2 axles(dana 44 and 14 bolt) from a junk yard for 400 than 1300 dollars for a set of civilian tires which would only be 33's. I kid you not you can buy a 14 bolt FF for 100 dollars where I live. Disk brake swap is easy if weight is your concern, and take off the rear top.

Currently running a 10b front and 14bsf rear. In my case the rear 10b had chipped spider gears and at the time I was on 33s. Everyones wheeling equipment needs are different.

That 14bsf is worth the peace of mind over the 10b rear when running 37s. Rear 10b's are well known to break under smaller tires and light duty wheeling. A 10b front and 14bsf rear will (generally) survive a long time with 37s and street driving/mild wheeling. YMMV

I run a 10bt front with 39.5x18.5x16.5s with a warmed over BB, 5.13s and a locker. Its alot how you drive, and what you drive through. Driving stupid with full throttle up every rocky pass will break anything. Around here the only rocks we have are in driveways and playgrounds. So I dont have that problem, so it depends on what/where/how you wheel that determines what you run. If you havnt broken anything yet, I wouldnt feel the need to go out and buy plus regear a 14/60 combo.

I have both:D:D

Horton has tons,

Jimmy has 10 bolts. Looking for a 6 lug SF right now. I even had a set of tons for the Jimmy, but thats not the direction I am going with it.

10 bolts are fine if you aren't breaking them. Once you start to break its time to upgrade.

Shoot I ran 38s on a 10 bolt front ( unlocked) for 2 years. Then I found my set of tons.

Yes, the D60/14FF combo is the prefered setup for anything past moderate wheelin. I want to be able to wheel on hard core stuff. If I don't thats fine, but at least I can vs getting to a trail that gets tough and have to then worry about breaking stuff. So I decided to go with the D60/14FF combo right from the get go so it's a non issue out on the trail.

nope i dont have 1 set. . . . . i got 3 :haha:

as a mechanic the last thing i wana do is play and fix my stuff after hard week fixing every one elses stuff. so i went big and never looked back on my own stuff.

There are alot of the guys that USED to run 10 bolts and kept breaking them so it was either put molly shafts and expensive U-joints in a 10 bolt or just buy a used D60/14FF combo for the same money it would cost to upgrade the 10 bolts and end up with a much stronger set-up.

Then there's the guys like me, I would rather have what I don't need than need what I don't have. :D

I run a d44 with an elocker crossover and hi steer. I recently replaced the front shafts with chrome moly (still have the old ones as trail spares) but have not broken anything to date. I also have 37 military tires and wheels

I got sick of ball joints on the 10 bolt knuckles. Yeah I broke axels using a lotta wheel spin going up sandy hills.
