doubler vs aftermarket box....UPDATE 3/5/11

I'm sure the 3/8 clearance is fine, unless something breaks, like a u-joint...
and pushes out a bearing cap....then its goodbye shifter shaft...:D

My rig has the removable floor pan so cutting and patching the floor should be no big deal and with the dash and seats mounted to the roll cage, I should have plenty of room for the shifters to clear everything.

I did do the complete setup on the shifters while it was on the bench,,,tested the ranges and the throws of the twin sticks in the 205....all works good...will do the 203 detent mod also...

next is to clean up the T-400 a little bit while its on the bench and then get to installing everything......gotta be ready for BB11 in September !! :D

Reinstalled the T-400 yesterday....new converter, front seal, filter and pan gasket.. put studs in the block for the bellhousing and threw it back in..

was hooking up the cooler hoses to the fittings on the trans case,,and snapped off a brass fitting in the case...:angry1::angry1::angry1:

grabbed my 25 year old snappy easy-outs....took a hammer and tapped one into the fitting and spun it right out ..:waytogo:...they never fail to work for me..
they have paid for themselves 100 times over..

I have a question about the flex plate to converter bolts....the old converter had just holes in the mounting tabs, and I used an ARP bolt kit that consisted of a 12 point bolt, lock washer and nut...all grade 8....

The new converter has thick tabs and they are threaded....looks like 3/8-16 NC thread...problem is the mounting holes in the flexplate are like 5/8 inch....does it take a special shoulder bolt to take up the slack of the 3/8 bolt in the 5/8 hole ???

I may start a thread about this....

next weekend...I should be cutting the floor for the shifters and clocked transfer case clearance...and installing the doubler...:waytogo:

na just a washer head bolt. the slop is for welding the tabs on tolerence.

Yeah I just tighten the bolts and clamping force is enough to keep them from moving.
The TC is centered by the hub anyway, the bolts are to keep it from free wheeling.

Got a little more work done....

doubler in place.....huge hole cut in floor for clearance....:eek1:

went with the star wars design crossmember....

Ughh, got all the parts laying on my garage floor, just need to finish up soem other stuff before I start this project!

You're motivating the hell out of me though!

That hole in the floor and the "Star Wars design" look pretty familiar! :haha:

Off topic, but what front springs are those?

The springs came from Steve at ORD .. I can't remember if he had them built and didn't use them....or something like that... when I ordered the suspension he told me he had them and gave me a good deal on them...

they ride nice,,and flex pretty good....every spring has sliding pucks...which it what you see sticking out of the bottom...the pin that holds the puck in place..

so other then the lomax not currently being available, what took them off the table?
was there any problems with that setup cuz it actually looks pretty solid candidate.

I believe someone at ORD said that JB Conversions lost their gear builder and was looking for a new supplier.

I read that the owner of Klune/High Impact passed away so the Klune crawlbox is off the market too.

Today's progress.........retubed the front square driveshaft...7 inches longer....installed the shortened rear driveshaft....7 inches shorter....:D

filled the T-400/203/205 back up with fluid/lubes... I think I need a 90 degree elbow and short pipe to allow me to put more lube in the 205 (clocked flat - it reduced the fill capacity ??? )

Mocked up the pass side exhaust tube from the header collector on back.....and went to find a muffler shop to bend up a new pipe back to the muffler...
1 hr later we were back at the shop installing the newly bent pipe...( thanks to the guy's at rippley's muffler shop in Houston !! ) it fit like a glove...!!!:waytogo:

clearance looks pretty good from the front driveshaft to the exhaust .... will have to use the forklift and cycle the suspension to see how close it really gets.....a bumpstop may be in order if it gets to dang close....

Installed the new poly bushings and washers mounting the transfer case and doubler mounting feet to the cross member..... Tightened the bolts til it just starts to compress the poly bushings.....but the bolts are not under any real torque....I'm afraid they will loosen up.....anyone have any ideas ?

:dunno::dunno:

I was thinking about installing studs in the mounting feet using red locktight...and then using nylock nuts on the studs coming thru the crossmember mounting plate...but really don't want 4 studs sticking out of my crossmember to get hung on rocks.....

will have to think on this one a while....

all in all a good day.....got a lot of small stuff done....should be moving under it's own power soon !! :woot::woot::woot:

Drill the bolt heads for safety wire then once you have them where you want them install the safety wire so the bolts can't turn and you're all set. :deal:

My 205 is clocked up 2", I used a pto cover with a fill plug and filled it with the regular amount of lube. It ended up higher than the fill plug but I feel better, using the fill plug it would only take 1qt less than spec.

now why the heck didn't I think of that.....:dunno:

thanks Scott !!!....exactly what I will do....

just waiting on another batch of parts for lowmax next batch from what i heard.

More recent info makes it sound like the 205 3:1 gearset may not be happening, at least not in the near future. Just an FYI, I wouldn't plan on one this year if you're waiting on one (and it may not happen at all).
