Duntz's 81 Malibu project *UPDATE: trading for 79 malibu*

Very beautiful car! Yall have done a great job, would have loved to have had a g body for a first car.

Mine is supposed to have a Macco paint job and it dont look bad but they tried to hide things with bondo instead of fixing it right... They deleted the mirrors which I have clue why someone would want done.

Gong to get it running and driving, turbo setup going, and hopefully hit the track a few times this year. Plan to get the body fixed and get it painted in a year or 2.

Thanks, my father bought it for $300 with a blown V6 and gave it to me for my 16th birthday after it had been sitting for a year or so with the PO, and I was greatful! Every since then I have been tinkering with it. I actually wouldn't mind if the engine took a crap on me at this point, I built the engine in 1996 and ever since then I beat the crap out of it every year and spray it occasionally and it just keeps going. If it craps the bed I could build a big block or an LS. :) That engine doesn't owe me anything. I owe it for all the fun I've had with it over the years. It was actually more of a sleeper before I painted it when it had turbo wheels and dull paint with all the limited trim package. The wheels and paint and hood look good, but it now looks faster than it is.

You near Bowling Green, or what is your home track?

Are you doing anything to the engine before you turbo it, or stock long block?

The paint looks good from what I can tell.

My ol man wouldnt let me have anything with a v8 :doah: so he bought me a beater square s10... Sounds like ya built a pretty good motor, whats it run at the track?

I actually picked this car cheap with title problems, I traded a rotted out k5 for it, I traded a 74 f250 Highboy that I gave $350 for the blazer :D and the 81 malibu I already had is going to fix the title issues

Seems like everybody thinks when ya paint a car up real nice that it is really fast, not saying yours isnt.

As far as the paint goes on my car well the clear on top of the car has peeled off since Ive got it, door mirror holes are bondoed over, has some lite damage on the driver quarter, the hood is rusty on the under side(I have another hood for it, going to run a stock flat hood), and I threw some crappy paint on the quarter post that dont look good but it kept the rust at bay when I cleaned the post up from the crappy bondo job and the rust that I cleaned off.

My local track is Bluegrass Raceway in Owingsville, Ky which is a 1/8th mile track, local 1/4 mile is Mountain Park Dragway in Clay City, KY. Beech Bend Dragway in Bowling Green is about 4 hours from me, Im planning on going to Holley's LS Fest in Sept wither my car is done or not.

Only thing Im doing to the engine is swapping to better valve springs, push rods, and sticking the 01 zo6 cam in it. The zo6 cam has been known to make good power in a forced induction setup.

Sounds like you got a plan for the car, I like it, turbo LS is a good setup. It should be a fun car. How much boost do you plan to run? E85 or pump gas? You building the system yourself? Sounds like you worked out quite the deal for it.

The regal runs a best of 11.87@115 on motor, and 10.46@128 on spray. I've ran 130 MPH before, but at a sloppy track surface so I didn't launch on spray that run so it was only a 10.80, I've always said it has an 10.39@130 in it, but I never seem to put it together. Last time I was closest, I forgot I had turned the rev limiter down so I actualy hit the rev limiter on the bottle in 3rd gear the last 200 ft on that 10.46 pass. :doah: My new best should of been gooder. Ran again right after that but the bottle was too cold and I spun off the line and only ran a 10.52@129.

The engine has a stock cast 400 crank turned to 350 mains in an old '69 350 truck block, stock 350 rods with ARP bolts, KB hyper pistons, used iron sportsman II heads that came with used roller rockers, and a used Eddy RPM intake. The most expensive piece in it was the comp hyd roller cam and retro lifters. Put it together on a budget when I was in high school and been beating on it ever since. Although recently I put new gauges in it and a 4L80E instead of the TH400 I had, and swapped to wilwood brakes on all 4 corners.

I kind have a plan lol, just collecting parts as money allows...
I really want to run e85 but the closest station that carries it is 40mins from the house so not sure if it would be a very good option, guess I could buy it by 55 gallon drums and pump it in but that would get old... I plan to do the fuel system myself with either a Bosch 044 or Magnafuel 4303, both are external pumps.

Going to start off with around 5-8lbs of boost to work all the bugs out and get myself comfortable behind the wheel of it, once everything is good Im shooting for 15-20lbs....

Originally was going to put a 9" under the rear but now Im going to swap a mustang 8.8 under the rear with 3.55 or 3.73 gears, alot cheaper to do the 8.8 swap and will hold up just as good as a 9".

If weather works out this weekend I may drop the motor/trans in it this weekend.
