I think I'll get the MSD 8202. Found it at Advance Auto in stock and can use 25% coupon plus additional $5 off speed perks which brings it to $37. Pep Boys also stocks it but no discount. I'll have it today so I can keep playing with the tune. Not sure how long Edelbrock will take to swap coils with me so if anything I'll have a spare.

@Bent77 I went and got the 8223 coil. A coil wire with two 90 degree HEI terminals is much easier to make than the older female coil style to HEI with no angle. My plug wire set had no terminal or boot for the older style coil and I had to rob an old set and re-crimp it. Turned out like shit so now I can avoid using that crappy coil wire. About the same price.

so newby guy here with few questions .

brand new gm L31 vortec 350 engine all stock for 96-03 trucks / vans . 87 oct gas . truck has 4.10 gear and 33" tires with th400 .

pinging under full throttle load hard take off from stop . what should i be playing with setting wise ?

current is 14* idle and 1000 rpm / 32*total and 3000 rpm .

when starting its good but seems to kind of lack of better wording seems to buck back just as it fires and i let off the key . any input on this ?

otherwise at this point she is doing real good .

Being as you don’t have a true mark on the damper other than 0, I’d double check that first

@sweetk30 check your WOT AFR set point. If it is at 12.5, try 12.0. I am assuming that the large amount of air that it can pull is making it a little lean. But you may also need to pull a little timing. I would only drop a degree at a time from the idle or total. One place at a time and try it. But remember that it is probably still learning the WOT unless you have been flogging it a lot.

If it was carbed I'd say too much initial timing...

if it was carbed i would not be asking in the injection section now would i :p :p o_0 :wink: i get what your saying tho .

we checked it and verified 2-3 times with his snap-on timing light and had the light set for 12btdc and she was spot on .

still all its own settings . other than idle rpm .

i will verify these settings for wot fuel .

and have not been flogging it much . but i guess i will have to .

Detonation usually means too much timing, low octane, or not enough fuel. Since you verified the timing is ok, then add more fuel in that area at WOT.

so add fuel = lower # if 12.5 now i want say 12.0 ?

lower = rich/fat ?
higher = lean/less fuel ?

just info for talking and leaning how to adjust .

Think of it in terms of how many particles of air per 1 fuel

thus more number, more air

Correct

Good starting point is mid/high 13s at cruise, WOT 12.0-12.5 is usually what a naturally aspirated engine wants.

You can also try to reduce the timing a few degrees and see if that helps

Looking at the Edelbrock PF4 Tech Support forum last night and this latest thread made me realize that some people have no business doing any modifications to their vehicle....

i sure hope he has someone double check his work .

maybe he was thinking the blue tooth wireless would talk with the coil ?

hope he did his fuel lines better than the ignition system .

oh ya i got another sticker today thanks sticker man @mrk5
