So i picked up my 89 jimmy for (what i thought at the time) was a great price about 2 months ago. Things have proceeded down hill from there. The Problems i knew about were a small leak in the coolant resovoir, a single broken spring in the rear, rough paint and some other very little things.

So far i have-
replaced the coolant tank
Radiator
thurmostat
hose except for heater
new stock height rear springs
Put in a Tach
Plugs and wires
Oil Change
Cancleing Cam (turnsignal)

yesterday i went and got 5 dakota M/Ts in 31 (a step up from the 235-75-15s) from pepboy, they told me for the warrenty i had to have an alignment. Sure. they put the new tires on (4 of them the had to order the 5th they told me after i purchased them).

the go to do the alignment and of course i need new ball joints, upper and lower both sides. The Quote they give me was as much as I payed for the truck!:doah:

so my to do list-
replace my upper and lower ball joints
repack my wheel bearings
replace my auto hubs with Mile Marker Supreme lockouts

My heater core decided to go about 2 days after i did the radiator, so that has to be done, and i will do the lines at the same time.

Any suggestions or input is welcome.

Thus ends my rant of the day:thumb:

My suggestion is don't get too frustrated. Replace the balljoints and heater core and carry on. You will eventually get your truck up to par and be able to begin enjoying it.

Thanks, I broke down and am having a shop do the ball joints, I just dont have the time or a place to do it. I'm sure almost everyone hits the point i was at. the good news is once this is done and i do the core I should be ok for a little while anyway.

Hopefully by then i will be back home with my 4 car garage so that i dont have to fool arround with parking lots and repair shops.

Welcome to the wonderful world of old trucks. I just decided to do a ground up build, it was easier.

:sign17:.....Stick with it and you will enjoy the ride even more.

Oh I'm not going any where, I've wanted a K5 since i was a in my early teens (I'm 24). I've had 2 1500's but this is the first 4x i actually care to do right.

The ball joints are done, pepboys didnt hit me as hard as i was worried they would. The also said they couldn't install my lockouts (im not sure if lmc sent me the wrong spline count hubs (19)) so i guess i will have to pull it apart and look.

Got the heater core done, that was an experience. Someone has been there before, alot of bolts and screws were missing, or seem to be.

I also cut out some of the padding under the carpet out (it was soaked). I intend to rhino line the inside within a few years anyway.

Should be good for camping in anza borrego this weekend. Hopefully.

I will try to get a few pics up soon as well

chevy.....

step #1 - remove radiator cap

step #2 - replace everything else....

It is, for the most part, but then again, it isnt like im doing anything crazy like ryoken...
I just wanted a place to keep track of what i was doing and rant when i smash the crap out of my knuckles

also, i did replace radiator cap...

Also, does anyone know if the smittybilt xrc 12 has a clockable clutch handle? Im looking at geting a bumper from DIY4X ( i dont NEED it, but i really want one) and thats the winch thats in my price range.

and is an occasional use winch going to need me to run a second Battery? I won't be using it much mostly for pulling people out of snowbanks next year when I'm back in NY

thanks
Ryan

I did some research and im going to reset the tv cable today, and hope that helps.
if i can nurse it for 6 months My buddy back home has a sm465 that I want to put in it because i wont be doing much highway driving anyway.

Heres hoping

I've decided to redo the brakes and calipers, they have been making a god awful noise and pulling to the right pretty badly.

I bled them (as best i could, they are extremely clogged with mud and i had to use a socket on them because the wrench started to round them) and that helped a bit.

I've never done drums, but while i have the extra cash i might as well do the rear too

Got the front brakes done today, did my manual locking hubs.
My battery decided to crap out when i got to the place i was doing my brakes, so i changed that.

I also got hired to do the neighbors brakes because every time she see's me im doing something to my truck...so that will be a little extra money in my pocket, once i buy the compression tool for the rear disks.

Pro-detailing

I spent 200 bucks and got my jimmy professionally detailed today.
Laugh if you want, it was worth it, I don't even have access to a gardenhose. They clay barred it, buffed, polished and waxed. Shampooed the seats and carpets, blew out the vents.

But Pictures are worth a thousand words so here...

good golly that looks nice!

you know the thing about these old trucks is eventually you have replaced nearly everything and don't have to worry about it for a while

Thanks, and hopefully (knock on wood) i have hit that point, atleast unless i decide to linex the inside (waiting on a quote) or switch over to a manual trans
