Did you not see the mid 70s ford I posted run a 10 sec 1/4 mile or the front engine slingshot rail?

Detroits are cool stock and can be cranked up but to make serious power requires money. stock they dont make much HP but TQ is usually pretty high.

More usless trivia EVERYONE on this site with a 6.2 or 6.5 has a detroit diesel. However they are not 2 stroke like most the other detroits.

Not quite...it gets complicated. DD was involved heavily but they're a GM engine. Guys go back and forth but one of the GM guys who was in on it back in the day is a member on Steel Soldiers.

Call it Detroit Diesel-ish.

Hell, they've got GM/DD/Navistar/AMG DNA in the family now.

They are considered a GM engine, mostly because Detroit doesn't want to claim them.

People read what they want to read on things like the bible and the constitution and this.

Its a detroit engine in my eyes cut and dryed. At the time detroit was a part of GM it says detroit had something to do with them, it says GM hads something to do with them.

Its kinda like arguing witch one of your parents made you.

Road engines with the detroit name are now owned by diamler chrysler but I wouldnt call them dodge engines. :haha:

Lets be realistic here, you think that that engine rolled off the assembly line with that color and stickers. Then why aren't they all like that? How hard is it to pull an engine, paint it, apply stickers, and reinstall.

I don't know either way, but theres 1 thing I do know. I work for the largest Detroit dealer in canada. one of the largest in north america. Since 1946 has been a Detroit Allison dealer. OK theres 3 guys here that have been on staff since before the 6.2 was introduced. I asked around. not 1 has ever been in our shop. there has never been any service manuals or literature here either. based on that fact of 1st hand knowledge I am confident that the 6.2/6.5 are not Detroit products. because we have service manuals and info for every other detroit engine including the 8.2L V8,. which is likely what the 6.2 was based on.

I was talking to Mr 82355 there and his drive by slandering post.

You can call it slander, I'll just call it the truth. We work on 8.2's, two strokes, Series 60's, DD15's MBE4000's and 900's. WE DON"T WORK ON 6.2's, or 6.5's. In fact when I had a service truck with a 6.5 in it, we didn't do any of the repair work to it. We can't get parts for it, we don't have manuals, it isn't a Detroit . . . . . . . .

Yeah, I am G2 Expert Certified on Series 60, MBE 900, MBE 4000, and Systems certified on DD15 (I just need to go to training on that yet). We see quite a bit of DD15's and now have a customer with DD13's. What distributor do you work for? I work for Interstate Power Systems.

Oh, and a 6.2 is not a Detroit . . .

Ah, sorry. I took your post wrong then. Sounded (to me) like you were one of the "6.2/6.5L engines suck because I say so" crowd.
My bad.:o

No, I was just saying that Detroit doesn't claim them. From what I have been told, is that GM made Detroit make to many compromises while designing them, durability wise, so they didn't want anything to do with them.

They are fine for an off road rig, or a daily driver for good fuel mileage. I just wouldn't recommend towing with one, I've blown up a few.
