Factory Tach sold for $415.00

I have a perfect working condition factory tach in my '78 K10.

It's even on my original build sheet.

Yup..original build sheet. lol

Somehow I managed to find a K10, in awesome condiiton, with 26k on it in PA.
Original '78 owners manual, build sheet, etc.

just out of curiousity, where did you find your build sheet? the only build sheet i have ever found was on top of the column between the column and the bracket.

There's little "pockets" in the rear corners of the cab, and it was just taped up in there.

The "new" style tachs are extremely rare, compared to the older ones.

Sorry guys with the "older" style tachs, yours aren't worth nearly as much because of that alone, so don't get your hopes up from this auction. People get what the market will bear, that tells you how rare and in demand the '81 tachs still are.

For some reason, alot more of the newer ('81-up) Tach's were sold in Canada. So you Canadians, don't pass 'em up next time your in the local bone yard.

Looks like I should sell mine...... I would make a $400.00 profit hehehehehe

Looks like I might make another trip out to the yard. Saw one on a K5 a couple weeks ago and almost took it. I plan on just getting an Autometer tach though so I didnt get it.

Dyeager....didn't see any in the calgary pick apart io visited a few weeks back. Still looking for the golden goose....90-1 RPO 8A8...electronic speedo with tach....although mr 73 needs to email some pics of what he created as i have a pile of parts to do what he did with the C60 tach and air psi gauage....

I didn't do anything special really. I started with the C60 housing that had the tach/fuel gauge and air gauge. That's the hard part is finding that, because the air gauge is big and has a special cutout in the housing for it, plus the tach/fuel gauge requires a special printed circuit. You can get around either of the those problems though, the fuel gauge you could wire directly instead of through the printed circuit, and the air gauge hole could be cut in the back and the printed circuit flapped over top.
My printed circuit was is great shape, all I did was clean everything, and assemble with newer style (symbol) gauges. The original cluster was electric gauges already. Older (73-76 I think) clusters will have mech. oil press, and amp meter instead of volt meter.
Here's the thread on it.

Thank you, I did go down to a local pick a part and found a complete working cluster along with 4 16" wheels (excellent condition) and 4 33" tires that are way better than the ones i have now. all of that for just 50 bucks.

I will get a pic of the back of my speedo I dont need a 100MPH speedo but why not:D.

I got ahold of Necromancer on the 67-72 chevy trucks board. He has a signal generator and the schematics. He calibrated it and replaced a resistor on the board. Apparently the type of resistor GM used leaks electrolyte as it ages and changes the resisitance. He can also recalibrate to a different range of tach mine started as 5K and is now a 7K:D.

Ira

He never got back to me. I want mine to stay 5K, I just want it to work....

OH yea I have to get my needle on the one I have fixed!

This one has 2 hours to go and is at $215.00 eBay item # 140042907267

Wow, now that's a keeper! :)

First confirmation I'm aware of that 1981 was NOT the last year of the tach for these trucks.

Were all the stock tachs 5K? Maybe I'll take another look then. Several months ago I stopped looking when they were going for about $200 on eBay.

Thought I might go aftermarket but it's hard to find a Tach less than 8k. Since I have a diesel I'd like better than <20% use of the sweep:rolleyes:

Want something really hard? find an aftermarket 5" Tach w/ 6,000 or less rpms, 5" Speedometer w/ Odometer & Tripmeter, 2 1/16" Gauges: 0 - 30 (or less) Boost, Oil Pressure, Oil Temp, Trans Temp, Pyro, Battery, and Fuel in matching faces:doah::doah: Then try not to break the bank!:haha::haha::haha::haha:

Been looking for awhile, still have plenty of time before I get to that install though!:crazy:

I have a 4000rpm tach/fuel from a C60, but it's broke. I'm gonna send it out to fix.
