FNG here.....Wasn't sure where to make the first post.

I had a '76 Caddy TH400 attached to a 500 cid engine and I got the drive shaft with it ,it had a CV joint (double cardan) at both the transmission and the pinion end,it was the only vehicle I'd seen with the CV centering ball made into the slip yoke..
Perhaps they used that type of slip yoke ,or it was custom made.
I tried looking up one to get an illustration but didn't see one like it--plenty of other types are pictured though..

Yep. That’s what it is. It appears this is a slip yoke from a Cadillac. Thanks for the save.

Make sure it has the correct number of splines and uses the same size U-joints as what was there before...TH400's have 32 splines ,TH350's and 700R4's have 27--I'm not sure what U-joints a Caddy uses but I recall mine had the inside clip type u-joints ,but I'm not sure if they are S44 or whatever..

Yep. Already double checked. Mine came with s44’s and the joints are the same. The one I have in my possession is a Cadillac slip yoke.

Diesel4me,

Thank you for mentioning the Cadillac. I’ll order this for now but will definitely be going SYE in the future and this will get me by in the meantime.

Hmm. The only think I’m wondering is if the shaft diameter is different. I’m not sure which transfercase I have but when I pulled this out it was sealed good.

There should be a tag on the back of the tcase with a ratio on it. 2.61 = np208, 2.72 = np241. If 241 there are easy SYE options. If its 208, your easiest option would be to buy a 241 and SYE.

The tag you are looking for:

Yep found the tag and it reads 261. Doesn’t Tom woods offer an sye for the 208?

caddy slip yokes were the thing until people found out there NOT designed for the steep angles of the lifted trucks . and also they had half length splines inside the yoke so they could slide out half way and you loose the drive connection .

Dodge 208’s are fixed yoke, so you could swap the back half of the case out for a dodge one.

Been years since ive had a 208, so i dont recall whats available on the narket for them these days. Generally people dont bother. The 241 is a superior case to the 208, and bolt right in.

There is a np241 with SYE already installed in the classified section...thats what I would do. Would just need to swap to 27 spline input to bolt up to the 700r4, and you would be good to go.

Yep. Having a custom drive shaft built for me. Pick it up in two days

Yoke > flange > CV > Shaft with all 1350 ujoints

That’s probably something I’ll do after a while. Right now I just want to drive it :D

Heres link to olddd thread about the woods 208 SYE.

If you have a new shaft being made, that should last you a long time unless to hang it up on a tree or rock

Yep, I’m not really going to be doing anything extreme with my Jimmy. I’ll drive it to work, hit small easy trails and mud. Not that big into crawling....... yet :rotfl:

This is by far the most powerful rig I have owned. Out of all the Toyota’s and Japanese 4x4 throw away trucks I’ve owned this one actually has torque. Not 90hp and lifted with blocks and barely pushin’ 31” tires :haha:Haven’t gotten it on a trail yet so who knows what my plan is haha. Maybe once I have a taste of the goods I’ll gwt crazy and won’t look back. Been known to do that. Haha

You know, I’m starting to wonder if the kid I got this from took the power from the door locks to power his “speaker system” there are some funky wires coming out the doors.

Also, just dropped off my flanged yoke with the measurements to Drivelines NW in Washington. The customer service there is insane. Awesome guys. They bent over backwards trying to get me that Cadillac yoke. They couldn’t find it so I’m having them build me a custom drive line. Flanged yoke with a CV all 1350 Ujoints gave me all dealership cost at $660 out the door.
Very impressed with their commitment to customers. Place is like it never changed from the late 70’s. Which is a good thing. No bull shit just what you came there for.
