FNG here.....Wasn't sure where to make the first post.

Pulling out the shaft and jiggling the joint. Sounds like my honeymoon I just got back from :D Huge thunder storm rolled in last night. Worst I’ve seen in a long time. I’ll be getting it out this morning and giving it a good jiggle.

Well, upon closer inspection. It is indeed the cardan joint.

I attempted to remove the drive shaft but for the life of me could not get the thing out.

If anyone is in the far left corner of the US about 40 miles south of the Canadian border I could use a hand on this one. I’ll buy beer and pay you. Or I’ll probably let a shop take care of it for me since today is the only day I can get it done and Ive be been at it since 5 am now almost 7. Maybe some coffee and thinking will help though.

Trying to understand your issue removing the shaft. 4 bolts at the diff and then pull it out of the transfer case. What’s the issue?

I managed to fanagle it out of there. It’s been grinding in there for a while. Not sure if the photos show but there is metal dust all up in it. 0D876C02-3F7D-4F18-BC1D-6E2609435B2F.jpeg9FD59D1C-47BE-4939-B5A0-63E132F9CF0F.jpeg

I was actually really dreading doing this repair because the last truck I did ujoints on I had to torch the ujoints out of. I forgot this truck is from out of state and this came apart with 3 hits with a BFH. Everything up here gets rusted shut.

She’s a little tired.

Got it all apart. Just unsure how to replace the joint attached to the drive line. Never messed with one of these before. A4777F86-F5DB-4994-BD76-AC496DD717AF.jpeg67FF8112-B8D7-4891-9849-88D598882516.jpeg

BleepinJeep has a good video on YouTube on changing that double cardan joint. Basically, you pry it all apart and then press it back together.

Will also need to measure the cross span with the caps on, end of cap to end of cap to determine what joints they are

I am concluding I need:

2x S44 and 1x 1350 based on the width being just a touch above 3.5 on the 1350

Sounds like this is kinda a weak set up for the engine this has.....

That would be awesome to see. I would like to know where to find the part as well, as I can’t seem to find it online. I don’t have a press either.

Either mine came as a single unit like my above pictures or I am missing a part haha

The yoke to the T-case holds the CV ball in a springed sleeve however, mine spun from the head of the yoke where it mounts. This is what was causing all the vibrations. Would be an easy replacement if a yoke like this existed anywhere else.

I contacted the custom drive shaft company in hopes they make a replacement. Looking online turned up absolutely nothing.

So close yet so far. It always turns into a bigger job no matter what you try to do. :rotfl:

If they can’t help I’ll probably just get a drive shaft company to make me something.

Not sure if the 14BFF ever came with a spider gear shaft that is held in with the little bolt,
I’ve had that shaft work it’s way out and hit the pinion gear before...makes a helluva racket on deceleration

Do you know where to get another one? For the life of me I can’t find anything online about it. It looks like a cast piece so there must be more than one made I imagine....

I had a '76 Caddy TH400 attached to a 500 cid engine and I got the drive shaft with it ,it had a CV joint (double cardan) at both the transmission and the pinion end,it was the only vehicle I'd seen with the CV centering ball made into the slip yoke..
Perhaps they used that type of slip yoke ,or it was custom made.
I tried looking up one to get an illustration but didn't see one like it--plenty of other types are pictured though..

Good call. I’ll see if I can find one.
