The 6.2 wasn't much in the go department, but got the gas millage.
I always wondered why more people don't run diesels off road. Easier to water proof, and torque!!!

[/ QUOTE ]
Plus weight, smell, mess (common), and noise. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif But I gotta say, Rene's was nicely done and I had no problems with it on the trail (smell, noise, etc.). It worked very well IMO. If I were doing a daily driver with mpg and longevity concerns with solid off-road capability, I would probably be looking for a turbo 6.2/6.5.

[/ QUOTE ]

Thanks Russ, I thought it worked exceptionally well in comparison to the old carb'd 350 I pulled out. With the 4 gear it seems to make more than enough power for me even with the 40's...but a turbo would be cool and is something I'll add eventually.

It's no messier than my 350 was...actually it leaks quite a bit less. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Noise only really becomes and issue on the freeway...on the trail it's plenty quiet. Weight is on par with a big block. Smell would be an issue with badly routed exhaust, I rarely if ever smell diesel exhaust in the truck.

For me the diesel made the most sense. Good fuel mileage, decent driveability, inexpensive to buy, great offroad. Ideal for a multi-purpose truck.

Can back down. What do you think of the "N" tree?

But I don't think it changed my gas mileage, wasn't that one of the rules??? /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

Yup; just couldn't resist. Rebuilt 350 with vortec heads (57k miles on bottom end, 20k miles on top end); stock cam, timing at 8 degrees; Carb jetted down (from 72 to 70); Carb spacer and K&N (for filtering properties, not for power/mileage - check my website); headers; new cat; single 2.5" exhaust; 3" lift, 10-bolt/D60 rear w/ 4.56 gears; 315/75x16 MTRs (radials, they measure 34.5" w/o load); average 11mpg fully loaded (w/ 'cage and back seat and spare parts and tools and Hi-lift and CO2 tank and fluids and what have you). Empty, mileage is 12; both numbers corrected for speedo error.

miles? i have no idea, i dont have a working speedo/odo That said, probably less than 10k on this motor.
TH700R4
np205
ff14 + D60
4.56 gears + detroits
39.5x15x15 TSLs

based on how much gas I put in it, and how far I drive on trips, I probably get between 8-10 mpg.

Pretty sure I read tha 'paper filters' filter better than a K&N...no link to back it up though.

Rene

That is true and it's been proven in several tests. K&N is not only crap, it's over priced crap that flows *very slightly* better than the average paper filter, but lets WAY more junk through. Its only real benefit is in its ability to continue working while wet, and if it's wet, well then you likely have other issues. K&N is all about image and hype...

Might just as well /forums/images/graemlins/grind.gif on your cylender walls, or pour sand in your crank case. Pour sugar in your gas tank, and stuff a potato in your exhaust.

Then drive it up a light pole and get UNDER THE TRUCK AND PRETEND TO BE BUDA. /forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif

How can you have a quadrajet (nice off-road & onroad carb) and TPi? I can't remember what it stands for exactly, but I'm about 90% sure it's a form of fuel inFection...

[/ QUOTE ]

Sorry guess I wasnt specific enough. Thats the specs of the engine when it got 12 MPG. I now have TPI (Tuned Port Injection) but dont know the mileage, obviously better.
