I just had the HF click torque wrench I bought 10 years ago completely explode the mechanism while doing my lug nuts on the front of the truck. Never seen anything like it. Double checked with another torque wrench and they were still within spec too haI have the ICON 1/2" click style from HF. It's the nicest torque wrench anyone in my family has ever had. At least all the ones I've seen anyway.
I have a more expensive digital, but really I personally don't like it and don't trust digitals.
Only thing it's even used for it torque angle.
I have way less digital torque wrenches fail than regular clickers. I have maybe 1 out of 250 digitals fail at +/-1% and about 1 out of 25 clicker style fail at +/-4%.
InterestingI agree, I hate that also. Try calibrating 20 in a row at 9 settings each with them vibrating and beeping every time. It’ll drive you nuts.I don't like the way they notify you is my deal.
I don't want it to light up, beep, do anything until the exact moment I reach my destination.
No lead in, warning, your getting close, none of that.
Just beep and flash once when I'm at my target.
That's my main thing. The one I have, and a few I've used+ seen used, all had " your getting close!" Crap going on, and it bugs me.
First time I used mine I stopped there and when I figured it out I had to go back over a full set of main caps that I almost messed up and left wrong .
I haven't calibrated my clicker wrench in 20+ years. It's probably more than10% off and I'm perfectly happy because I don't know.

I don't calibrate mine either, I can tell if it's off by much and the last one after 20 years felt too soft so I got a new one.I haven't calibrated my clicker wrench in 20+ years. It's probably more than10% off and I'm perfectly happy because I don't know.

Those were sweet - that was the highest rated manual torque wrenches we used; everything over that we used hydraulic units with reaction arms. Here is a 1000FTLB wrench that you can use the minimum 200ftlbs all the way to the maximum 1000ftlb with out an issue with a nice crisp click.

At that point I was working for General Electric Industrial Power Systems - Wind Energy Division making huge wind turbines and huge 300MW generators. What did you do on automotive that was more than 1000 ft.lbs?
My semi has a few 550 ft.lbs requirements and the rest is in the 250 and below
