Grandpa’s Blazer gettin fixed up…

Papa is fixing up grandpa’s ole Blazer
Don’t know about that. Even torching and dosing with penetrating oil would not budge. Machines said sometime they friction weld in there and can’t do by hand. IDHK but his machine went to 31000lbs plus with red hot steel before broke free. Then it popped like a gunshot and moved 1/8”

But, I will have new axles, bearings, seals, bushings, etc and fully serviced front end now. IDK

Guess good thing.
i live in the salt belt of new york . i know rust life . i have posted pics here of 5gal bucket off just 1 truck frame . .

keep a close eye on them cheepy u-bolts you have there for the axle to springs .

Oh no cheap? They were Rancho grade 8 zinc treated. I was told that was an upgrade to OEM black steal grade 8 . Oh boy…oh boy

*would have said the sway bar is installed perfectly on the scrap pile

Then saw it "uninstalled" from the floor
:haha:

I did lots of suspension work in 20 years as a tech . Also lots of lift kits . The most problems i saw was shiny kit brand u-bolts . L&H threaded rod company is the long time hot ticket top quality brand .

Not trying to be a d!ck if thats the the way you took it . Just looking out for peoples safety .

I have thicker skin than that. lol just meandering through this project trying not to spend me retirement to get her done. Betty is at a turning point and think I will tell the machinest to start the motor build while I clean under the cab paint in POR15 and start running brake and fuel lines soon.

Is this a fair price? For services described. Also includes like new 7qt oil pan.

I didn't check all your prices, but two things I do notice, I don't think I would pay ~$400 for used lifters. And a even pattern magnum cam is like a 40 year old cam grind or more. I would use a more modern cam grind.

miss spelled words / 400 for used lifters / same pattern cam as said is OLD AS HELL . .

and last i knew engine gasket set comes with rear main seal .

and that price you can go buy a blue print motor done turn key for same or less ...... dam .

under 400 hp and 5k-6k long block 350 ready to go from them . https://blueprintengines.com/collections/gm-compatible-small-blocks-350-c-i

if you are not opposed to rebuilding your engine with help from people here I would ask @folkenheath for a price quote. as for prices in Florida, I'm in Oregon and I cant help.
Ty. Don’t mind using CK5 people just wonder how much the shipping would add to it not going local.
Looks nice!

One question, why would you need caliper bracket spacers on one side and not the other?
may be an error but the offset of the rotor looked not to need on one side but have to look at that. Kit had no instructions…. Winging it but have a mechanic friend coming by to look at that next week cause I too had questions.

I would generally recommend using a trusted local machine shop over a blueprint crate engine. And I can supply a blueprint crate engine, not anything wrong with them, just high quantity with less care than a detail oriented local machinist. And I like to support local machinists.

However, you need to be able to trust your machine shop. Seeing how he picked out a very old camshaft, I am guessing the guy has either been around for a while and just sticks with what always worked for him, or he picked something he got for cheap. Their reputation would determine which one. If it is the former, that's fine, maybe just needs some more modern parts with his experienced machining. If it's the latter, go somewhere else. The fact they are selling used lifters for $400 makes me skeptical, but I have no idea who it is.

I can get you parts, or an engine if you want, depends on what your plans are. If you would rather buy from the local place I get that too.

As for your brakes, it appears on the one side the caliper is almost touching the bracket, and the other there is more space. The single piston calipers are supposed to slide so that certainly could be the difference.

Ok. Need transmission front drive help.

I cleaned up the oil soaked pair to look like this. Do these markings mean anything of note? I see a build date of 11-1-1977 and a Big K oh and one before pic

All was working well when taken out. The transmission was rebuilt 12000 miles ago in 2012

My transmission guy said change fluids and seals and run it. Any alternative perspectives to consider?

I have fluid and such to service the transmission. But not sure on the front drive unit. Think I see the plug to drain that. Seeing some of these gaskets I feel like breaking it apart to put in new felpro gaskets or new International grey gasket maker.

That's a NP203 transfer case. Run it, don't start tearing it apart.
