GsxrMike's build thread...Frostbite 2011 Pictures are in!

Oh and I would like to put a fiberglass hood on it. Anybody know where I can get one for less than $300?

Wait a Second here.. Lets go back a little bit. Can you explain the first winch design? Was it mounted up side down? If so why couldn't you just spool it the other way? Idk.

Yes I installed it upside down and I couldn't spool it backwards because then the winch would be working against the brake which would burn the damn thing up in no time.

try carhoods.com under race weight, they had a stock one for 370 and an indy cowl induction for 350. not under 300 but closer.

Cheapest one I could find was like $530 after mail in rebate. YIKES! Where are you finding any cheaper than that on that site?

I found this one which would work good cause I could just pin it on and go and it would be very very light weight.

found a cheaper one while looking for the website the others on.

go to www.up22.com
select chevy truck 60-98
select 81-87 race weight.

cheapest for your year i found was $240 for a lift off type and $300 for a hinge type.

Alright guys I'm back...I don't know for how long but I am back for now. I have been working 70-90 hour weeks since April and now I am caught up a bit and only working 60 hour weeks. Plus I may be hiring another new guy which will free up more time.

Anyways I ordered a bender today from some diesel performance place. It was only $330 shipped so we will see how it lasts. I am going to hunt around and try to find the threads on the 241/205 doubler but just in case anybody knows, has anybody come out with a kit yet? Anyways I will try to get bits and pieces done here and there but at least I am back at it.

I was thinking about posting and seeing how things were going. Looking forward to some progress so we can do some wheelin together.

Frostbite will hold true to it's name if I go next year because I will have no top and no heat. I guess I will have to dress warm!

more progress

I almost have the passenger side half door done. I used 16 gauge tread plate for the panels. I just have to finish welding the seams but I got caught up last night because I had to go get a 4' long python for my son. He turns 4 today! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Pics for your pleasure...

Nice... Are you going to have any kind of latch system to where the doors will open? Or you just going to climb over?

Keep up the good work...

Actually I retained the stock door latch and took the piece that used to attach to the outside handle and ran it out of a small hole I drilled and then curled it up and tack welded it to itself. All you have to do is pull on it and it opens. I will try to get a better picture up later.

I just ordered my clocking ring from DIY4X! I should be able to finish getting the body off tonight so I can start cleaning/repairing/painting.

I guess since I feel like spending money I don't have I just ordered a steering brace from ORD. WHOO HOO!

Nice build...

I like the winch mount...

I may have to use you pics for inspiration when building one for my crew cab...:D

Keep it up...

I got the body off tonight. I also got the rear hangers switched around and it gave me 1.5" more lift in the back. I will post more pictures later when I don't have to use my phone.
