Yeah I am gonna cut a plate as a "skidplate" under the winch mount area.

I thought about narrowing the front, but it's a lot of work, and I just finished this full width bumper. I really dont take much front fender damage as my tires sit out far enough to save me.

I am contemplating tapering the rear some though when I start on the rear portion of the cage.
 
I say leave it full width. Your rig still being full width is one of the many reasons why I like your rig so much. Besides, chicks dig body damage.

Well the front will stay full width for awhile unless I start peeling fenders off. The rear I wouldnt mind going in 3-4" on each side.

That is completely understandable. I'm keeping my rig full width and once the body is totally FUBAR after a few years of hard wheeling, I've got an '81 body tub sitting in storage that I will swap onto the frame. Then it will be a vicious cycle all over again.

I doubt this will get another full width body once I get tired of the damage. I like the idea of K5 skins like the ORD buggy!

Yeah, I hear you on that but I don't want to turn mine into a buggy. One of the things that I like so much about fullsize rigs built for wheeling is the uniqueness of them compared to J**ps, Toyotas, and the like because of the wide body. Plus, if you have a family and like to bring them along on a trip, you've got more room in a fullsize.

Agreed! That is why mine has stayed the way it is. I am a minority up here in the NW for sure! If I ever go to tube it will be a 4 seater for sure!

Nice! When are you planning on building your cage for your rig? Also, are you gonna put the A pillar down tubes through the dash or around the dash? Just wondering.

Well I was going to start on the A and B pillars this week after I finish up my maintenance stuff, but looks like I am going wheeling on Sunday so that comes first in my book! No more long term tear downs for this guy.

I'll probably get some measurements while I have it inside where its dry and write them down. I can't bend tube while the truck is inside due to space restrictions anyway. I'd like to run the A pillars through the dash, but I havent researched whats in the way at all. I'm not a big guy, but Id rather have those tubes out of the way. I'm figuring I'm also going to have to cut holes in the floor and drop the A and B pillars down through them to weld up the tops as I have no plans of cutting my half cab up. Rains to much here :D
 
If you do put the A pillar down tubes through the dash, will you be modifying the dash pad so it will go back on or just leave it off like tRustyK5 did? I modified mine so it will go back on because I wanted my CB radio on top of the dash pad in the middle of the dash.

I am going for the look of Rene's cage, and the cage that was in the UAV when it was full body, but a little longer over the rear.

Hey Brian, the bus is getting close to being able to tow... You'll have to come down for a trip on the Busy...:deal:

That'll self clearance things for ya...:D

I've heard, and Id love to make my way down there. Think we are hitting Walker this weekend.

Thanks man! and I didnt mean to talk you out of them, but just explain what it takes to run them :waytogo:



Went through the front axle. Hubs look like I just assembled them yesterday :waytogo: Kingpins look good, but the springs are a little worn after 2 years of wheeling. Bushings arent broken, but next time I go in there I am doing the bronze ones and hopefully upgrade to the Ballistic arms. Driveshafts are all greased up and have new joints at the pinion up front. Ears on the front driveshaft are a little beat up :whistle: Got my t-case adaptor sealed up better and new bolts. Tried to push my fender back in, but couldnt do much with it :doah:

Started on the skidplate for the bumper tonight.

Kind of a side project while I am waiting for my 241 output shaft bushing to come in tomorrow. Hopefully this one fits! I need to get driveshafts back under this thing and get it on the trailer Sat night.
 
Finished the skid plate. I had extra time waiting for the right bushing for my T-case all week so I got a little fancy :woot:
