"Hardcore" 89 (Black and Blue). IT RUNS, DRIVES, AND STOPS. BUILD ON HOLD

Are you gonna add some short kickers from the back of the halo down the the middle of the c-pillar???

And I agree, I don't know what these guys are talking about... The body on that thing looks great...:D

I would add something from the back of the Halo to the rear most downbars. It looks like there is a lot of halo sticking out back there.

Yeah there are two more bars as shown below :D Just have to finish notching them. My notcher only does 60* and they are about 70* so I am finishing them with the grinder...slowly.

Just a little cruise aboard the USS Bush. I cross over to a land deployable squadron next year so could be Afghanistan next year, or closest to wherever the next crisis is. This whole Libya thing is going to be different. We may actually hang out in the Med instead of the Persian Gulf which would sure be a welcome change.. as long as they make it a combat zone

Got the rest of the tube work done on the cage tonight. Everything is fully welded and ready to install so I can get the floor plates done and bars to the frame cut. I added on a couple small kicker bars at the bottom of the B-pillar to strengthen that area up.

Looks good Brian...

Have you checked out Brent's (TMF) k5 cage thread on the other board???

He built it for a customer... Turned out really nice...

There's some really good pics of connecting the cage to the frame using plates and tube...

Yep I just checked that out. I think I am going to copy his floor plates for the corners of the footwells. I was thinking of doing an L bracket there, but seeing how he did it I think that way looks good.

I like my style halo better than the one he built, but over all it turned out very nice looking. If I was paying somebody to do my cage it would go through the dash for sure though!

I think your kids are really going to like the new jungle gym. Seems pretty fancy for something the kids to swing around on. :pimp: Looks good!

Oh yeah they like it already! My buddy pointed out the other day they are gonna have to crawl in and out of it. Might have to make them wear their BMX helmets while getting in and out :D

Now to pick a color. I was thinking something like a Hammered silver or grey. I thought about the blue I have on my other parts, but not sure how that would look.

Nothing wrong with helmets! My kids have bike helmets and mx helmets. They already know they have to wear them when riding their electric 4 wheeler/jeep. And sometimes my boy wears his mx helemt around town too, just in case I guess. I have been using the rattle can spray on truck bed liner stuff from walmart, about $7 a can and seems to hold up pretty well to rock rash. They only have black here, but tan and gray are online.

Yeah both my boys wear them on their bikes and skateboards all the time.

I did my front bumper and sliders with tat truck bed coating then a couple coats of hammered black over top. The smoother paint over top of the truck bed coating seems to make it easier to keep clean.

Chevy orange...:pimp:

I did mine with gray tremclad and I liked it. I used a brush because my cage was through the dash and not removeable. I didn't want to deal with overspray, masking a ton of stuff and brushing it on I got a much thicker coat on it than you normally get with rattlecans. I was also able to reach even the most difficult areas somewhat easily. I initially thought there would be a lot of evidence of using a brush, but it flowed out very nicely and I couldn't tell afterward that it hadn't been sprayed.

Just curious, with the rear most legs intersecting a foot or so above the floor wouldn't that create a weak spot during a rollover? Kinda like a kick in the knee. I would think the intersection would need to be at the floor plate, no?

I am not sure really. I have seen the same design in other cages. I thought about adding a short kicker bar down off that tie point like I did on the bottom of the B-pillar, but I do plan to taper the rear sometime and dont wanna have to change anything with the cage.

masking a ton of stuff

Rene

mine almost drove me insane.. :screwy: taping and untaping probably took almost 20 hr's on mine... :doah:

heck, I'm still pulling the occasional piece of tape I missed getting off earlier... :haha:

Now to pick a color. I was thinking something like a Hammered silver or grey.

First paint it with truckbedliner in the spary can, Then paint the Hammered color. This will give the hammertone some texture.

Are you going to add gussets at the tube joints? ...and Grab bars, etc..?
