"Hardcore" 89 (Black and Blue). IT RUNS, DRIVES, AND STOPS. BUILD ON HOLD

I really like this thread. Nothing better than a beat and nasty blazer. Love it. I had a question for you on your steering. have you ever had problems with your steering box with the tapped caps? Some people say not to do it this way, but I think it should work fine. I am pretty sure I want to go this route and thought I should ask you how yours has held up since you use your stuff good and hard :waytogo:. I know you havn't posted anything on this for a while...any updates? This things is sick!

Thanks man :waytogo: No I havent had any issues with the tapped caps. I have a 1.75" ram so its a little slow, but most of our wheeling is slow.

Very cool man I would love to go wheeling in wa.

Thanks! :pimp:

No updates since the 35 spline stuff went on. Wheeled a couple times, but I am deploying real soon so its put away for the year in the garage up on jack stands.

When I get back..

New 1410 driveshafts
Finish forward cage
possible new sheetmetal+ more tube
Magnum box or the 241/205 doubler
LS swap :dunno:

Hey man, I was wondering if you could tell me something about your assist lines from the box to the ram. Does your end cap (on the front of the box) hydro line go to the fitting closest to the base end of the ram, or the rod end of the ram? I think I saw a pic you have that makes it look like it goes to the base end of the ram, but I wasn't for sure. I am doing the exact same set up right now and I would like to make sure the lines are correct now while there is no fluid in them than having to do it later and spilling more fluid on my garage floor :haha:. If you could take a sec and let me know, that would be much appreciated. Thanks :thumb:

I am currently deployed so I can't go look for you, but I do believe that the end cap fitting supplies pressure when you turn right so depending on how your ram is oriented the line will go to the port on the ram that will cause it to move your tires right. I am trying to picture it in my head so on my ram the line from the front of the box will go to the port closest to the piston end.

That's exactly what I was thinking. My ram is mounted like yours with the piston pushing out towards the driver side knuckle. So I am pretty sure my line coming from the front cap of the box should go to the fitting that is closest to the piston end. I just wanted to make sure before I put some fluid in it. Thanks! Can't wait until you get back and we start to see you working on this thing again (thanks for serving by the way....much respect). If you find some time, check out my build. I know there isn't really anything that special in it, but you might get a kick out of another K5 build :D

Ok well Ive been home from deployment for 3 months now and finally worked on the truck for the first time. I have my mind set on getting a magnum box for my 205 instead of the 241/205 doubler and have been sorta pinching pennies and waiting. Salmon and then hunting season kept me busy, but time to get back to this thing.

Still dont quite have the funds for the Magnum box so I figured Id pull my 241 and fix a stripped bolt in the adapter maybe in time for the New Years run.

Here are the mount bolts that attach it to the crossmember.. I guess this would explain the front shaft CV hitting the crossmember under power. The pass side rubber was shredded as well.

Sooo gotta get those replaced. Heli-coil a hole on the back of the trans and should be good to go.

Got a snazzy new 1410 shaft from Jess at HAD! :waytogo:

Going to get some small shims for the 60 along with the 1410 should eliminate any issues I was having with bind up front.

Also got some seats from an MRAP while I was in Afghanistan. Built in 5 points and everything! I am going to order some PRPs for the front from DIY4X and put these in the back for the kids.

Got a line on a straight set of front fenders so I am going to look at starting the taper up front and some fender skins.

Thats it for now

My "Hardcore" 89 Build (Black and Blue). Back to it!!

Good to see you're back in the game here at home dude. :thumb: I always enjoyed watching this build move along (to more body damage :haha:)

I like those seats too. Just one more way the MRAPS blows the HMMWV away.

Ever think of the behemoth drivetrain under drive box? I have one on order waiting for it to be delivered. Same idea as the magnum box but way cheaper.... mine was a lot cheaper then the magnum and I put my own planeteries into if from one of my spare 241's. Gonna see how it holds up once my k5 build is done. Awesome build by the way!

Yeah I was doing a little reading on it today. Looks similar to the box4rox from DD machine. I was going to do the 241/205 and then ORD pretty much dropped that idea and the magnum box came to be.

The cool thing about the Magnum box is that there is no intermediate shaft. Now I am a doubler newb, but I know they recommend not running the front box in low. Well being the front box is 2.71 I can imagine it getting used a LOT in that range.. I dont know if this is a realistic concern anymore.

I do have the $$ for the Magnum put aside, but will entertain other reliable options to put that money elsewhere. Was really hoping ORD might do a sale for Christmas..

It really isn't a big deal to not run the range box in Low. I usually shift the 205 into Low, and then switch back and forth between High and Low in the range box, because it is much easier to shift.

This thread is great, I wish I had your attitude about body damage.

Great build wish I would have started following it earlier :waytogo:

I do the same!

Hahah thanks! :waytogo:

I tried hard for a long time to keep it straight, but up here its just futile!!

Ok really trying to get out of this rut I have been in. I deploy again in 5 months and have been wheeling a couple times. Going this weekend as well. I have lots of parts but zero motivation to tear anything apart LOL.

I did however order 60 more feet of 1.75 DOM and 40 feet of 1.5 DOM.

I need to get some rectangle tube for my new sliders/boatside and then I can build my seat bridge...

For my NEW SEATS!!!
