I am getting close to do this swap and need my adapter machined. I would like to have someone who knows what they are doing do this, as the adapter is not cheap. I will pay shipping and labor.

Any of our supporting vendors do this work?

Thanks.

Also, does anyone know a source for the metal breather tube on top of a Dana 60 that goes into the housing?

I took mine out months ago for a complete teardown, sandblast, and rebuild and can't find it now :doah: .

So you pull? what set up do you use?

Are you talking about the adapter to mate a 4L80E to a 205?

I used an NP241 adapter between my 4L80E and 203 (Doubler setup) and it worked perfectly......just needed to "oval" one hole in the adapter to make all the holes line up.

Check my gallery pics under "4-Link Experiments" or whatever I called it.

Last Year: 1980 K20, H.O. 350, 700r4, NP205, 10 bolt front, 14FF rear, 4.56 gears, lock-rited front and rear, High Angle Rear driveshaft, custom hitch.

This Year: 1980 K20, Warmed 454 (if I can get it to stop making noise), 700r4, NP205, Welded Dana 60, 14FF rear lock-rited, 4.56's, High Angle Rear driveshaft, custom hitch.

Possible this year: 4L80 swap, Eaton E-locker in the front, High Angle front shaft, and a redesigned hitch.

I have several sets of wheels and tires depending on track conditions (all in 33 or 35" diameters).

what does a factory one cost? there was a 4L80E to NP205 for the 91' model year correct? I think in the 1 ton 4x crew cabs and or 3/4 ton burbs.

I don't think it's going to be a problem to machine. I'm waiting on a friend to get me a 4l80 tailhousing so I can measure and machine the adapter. I made a post in the ORD forum, but couldn't get an answer out of Stephen, maybe he's not interested. I should have mine done within the next two weeks; I'll let you know what the dimensions are so you can have yours machined, or you can send me yours and we'll exchange. :D Hey wait a minute, I just figured out a service, now I can become a vendor:crazy: .
On the breather vent, I belive you need a 1/8" npt hose barb.

I think SweetK30 has done this swap, but his was with the figure 8 adapter, and he made a spacer to adapt the tranny to the adapter.

quick hijack*
Jimbo, do you have your own shop, or machines that you can use? what types, cnc mills, lathes?

I manage the family ranch here in NM. I'm 60 miles from town, and (my wife says) 10 miles south of the middle of nowhere. I have a small machine shop here with a Graziano SAG210 lathe, and a Deckel FP1 universal mill, and all the support equip, so's I don't hafta go to town!

He needs that stuff so he can recreate crashed UFO parts.

No, No, No, I'm southwest of town, the UFO crashed northwest of town! For what it's worth, the "crash site" is directly between Los Alamos Nat'l Lab, and Walker Army Air Base; the only places in the world there were (undetonated) nuclear weapons in 1947:screwy: :surepal:

Boy, did this thread get hijacked!

I've got two adaptors, both fit the 400/205 combo from '85 to '90.

I was wanting to have one of these adaptors machined down to fit the 4L80E to keep just in case I ever find the tranny.

Keep me posted if anyone knows or has done this mod work to the adaptor.

yep i used 4l80-e 2x4 fixed yoke tranny. then removed tail stuff. shuved tcase on and measures space. found 1 1/4 " was perfect with tcase back off just a bit for internal movment play. had buddy make spacer for me. i am going to have more made soon to sell.

I've heard .060" needs to be machined off (from Internet resources.) My buddy took .020" off to make it work... you can see the extra 'step' where its machined in this pic:

Do you remember how much the shaft stick-out was on the 2WD 4L80 with the tailstock removed Woodchuck, the 4WD 4L80 shaft stickout is 3" just wondering what the 2WD is.

Seemingly so simple but yet no one has an actual specific dimension. Someone, and I mean SOMEONE, has got to have a true '91 adaptor out there that they can share with the measurements. :ears: :ears: :ears:

i have an 89 adapter it came out of a 89 crew cab with a turbo 400

i'm looking to swap to a 4l80e but my 205 takes a round adapter.
