Re: -4/28 sliders are done and the floors is all welded in.... 99.9% -tons

Now start redoing the frame in something rediculous, 2" x 3" x .750 or something

Where did you get that magnetic thing from? Can you use it when its not on the metal your welding too? (i.e. small peices) Thnks /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

you dont have to use it all the time, that why I have the clamp clipped onto the bolt. If I'm doing something small that I can clamp it on, I usually do. But welding the floors I stuck the magnet under the floors so it would be out of the way or when installing the 3x3 tubes the clamp doesn't open that big.

I picked it up at the Homier discount tools(HDC), it was like $4 I think. Harbor frieght and other places should have it. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif If I'm tacking/welding something really small I clamp it in my vice and stick the magnet on the side of the vice... then everything is grounded.

that looks awesome---you are truley a craftsman. If i would have seen that rust at the beginning i would have cried, and then tossed it in the junkyard. Good job

That's what I wanted to see... good stuff... I'll be doing something similar very soon... though I'll have to drive the stanza for a few weeks again. How many hours did you put into the new floor?

HAHAHAHAHAH

hours.... :p:

maybe 3-4 months of hit and miss fabbing and ordering/waiting on parts and money

That wasn't my question... how many "Man Hours" were put into that build?

like a full day of work is 8 man hours.... if 2 guys worked on it for one day, it's 16 man hours... etc...

I dont know, it was hit and miss work alot, mainly just me utill I got to the point where I needed help installing the big sheets or more ideas when I got stuck on something. I couldn't even begin to guess the time involved. If you had a plasma cutter in stead of a torch and sawzall and a heavy duty welder I would say three to four 8 hour days would be more than enough assuming you had all the metal and extra cash for incidentals (bushings, bushing cups and washers, bolts, drill bits, sawzall blades, cutting wheels and welding wire (there's about 2-11lb rolls just on the floors, sliders and bracing, maybe 3-11lb rolls and 5 or 6 -2lb rolls total on the truck and bumpers)). At the same time I replaced the fuel lines, fuel tank, straps and brake lines (now I'm not even going to use that frame because I have a new frame thats seen very little use).

Hope that helps

One Word

WOW!!!!:bow::bow::waytogo::waytogo: Very nice work.. So when can you do mine? Looks AWESOME...

i ripped off his design and made a similar heavy-er duty-er floor (w/a trunk like a ridegline) in mine and you can just weld the hinges onto the bottom of the piece of 3x3 at the back. if you do it right and use some ratchet straps to re-gap the rear, you can have tailgate-body panel gaps like 2mm (yeah metric is gay i know... 3/32 i guess)
