Hedman Elite Header Review

I was very happy with the fit when I swappped from Dynomax to Hedmann. You will love the ball and socket collector. It will stay sealed unlike the old style flat collectors. I cheaped out and bought the 69230 uncoated ones. they are coated now though, in rust. When I priced them the ones you got were $411.

Chaz! Our trucks will have something in common! I'm going to run these headers! Holy crap! :D

It's all down hill from here Kraig. (misspelled on purpose since my name is in my sig)

Nice write up. I helped out my neighbor install these headers on his truck and they are easy to install.

Sorry Chas, I was so excited to see we had something in common I typed that reply in 3 seconds flat. I got subconsciously confused, we have a salesman at work who spells it "Chaz"... :D

he's just dumb then. :D technically I should spell it "chas." emphasis on the period since its an abbreviation. but what does any of this have to do with headers.:doah:

I have actually spoken with that guy on the phone before.

One question about headers, in order to bolt these up to the exhaust, I'm assuming you have to cut the old flange off and weld the new one on and adjust the length accordingly? Anybody make a set that will just bolt up to the factory exhaust?

How long are the bolts that thread into the head?

IIRC they are about 1.5", if you look at the accessory picture you see a bag of long bolts for the collector on top and the short header bolts beneath it.

Heddman 69230

I replaced an unidentified hedder with Heddman 69092's as recommended by Summit.

I have a SM465 and 8 inches :D .

the hedders went on terribly, first the collectors on the old set were what was leaking and could have been welded if I could find the leak, I used a grinder to remove the tube from the second cyl since the allen headed bolts were shot.

Second the collector pressed right up against the spring hanger bolt head and I knew that would be a problem, I'll post a pic of the hole later.

Third and most worrysome, the clutch Z bracket hit the hedder, it crossed the block to frame no problem, but couldn't be depressed w/out hitting the no.5 cyl. tube.

I just received the replacements Heddman no. 69230, which were ceramic coated by a 3rd party.

You know what they say third times a charm. Wish me luck!

What are you running for the rest of your exhaust, as far as mufflers? Is it loud?

The rest of the exhaust is just about as straight a pipe as can possibly be, with an aftermarket knockoff of flowmaster which are quieter. I'll find out later today what brand and repost.

The truck is very quiet, some say to quiet, but with the top off I really like it.

Currently I'm replacing the heads and intake manifold and will have it running by tomorrow at the latest.

Again, I'll repost with new pics and the brand of the muffler (which I'm told is more durrable than Flowmasters and the reason I went that route) later today.

I am in the process of doing a head gasket change, and I JUST got my heads, and intake manifold back from the shop.

Is it worth it to do the header swap?? I have an 89 sub, and it has to pass the E-test yet, or should I wait until my truck is too old to E-test??

Sorry for the hijack, I just wanted to get this question off my chest...

I also have a set of rotted headers and am leaning towards installing these Hedman headers next month. I currently have a quarter size hole in the driver's side collector of my Hookers which I repaired with a patch in the meantime.

I have Headman headers on my truck and I LOVE em'. I am running a single 3 inch exaust though

i just got the 69890 hedman headers and am having the problem with them hitting the spring hanger. what is the difference with those 69830 headers you put on less tall than these other ones and would the 69830 headers fit on my 88 k5. would really hate to have to take a hammer to brand new headers

I'll look into this at work tomorrow (I work at Summit). Remind me if I don't post up by tomorrow evening.

The 69830 headers are listed from '67-'81, and the 69890 headers are listed from '82-'91. The Hedman catalog says that the 69890 headers will fit with angle-plug heads. Not much detail other than that.

could they have changed because of smog reasons?
