Hedman Elite Header Review

Mine are about there. Screw double nuts, buy a bunch of the right bolts, and tack weld the nuts in place.

this is the best/ cheapest and easiest option yet. With my rig having a boxed frame and these should help out a ton hopefully. Im not going to run another hanger as the exhaust will be solid to the frame the rest of the way back.

you can see them in this pic, flex couplers.

Collector

Got the collector/Y-pipe setup done. I wanted it as wall art cause it's too dang pretty to put under the truck...!

So what I did was pull off the Air pump, removed the stock headers and took out the a/c compressor, modified the p/s bracket and tightened up the crossover pipe. I need to add the heat riser piece to the header tube to comply with the smog laws. Also, I am going with the GM serpentine system with a computer from a 1991 K5. This will now comply for our wonderful California smog laws. Also, had an O2 sensor welded to the collector adapter which works perfectly.

It all fits perfect, sounds great and looking forward to future mods.

Dredging up this old thread. I read 8 pages of "will it clear this", "will it clear that", plugs only kind of a pain to replace, bolts come loose all the time, etc etc, and I didn't read anything about performance. Is it worth the trouble and expense vs. plain old manifold? I've currently got Thorley Tri-Y and have had no issues except for the life of me I can't figure out how to route the pipes to clear my front driveshaft. I thought maybe I'd buckle and switch to the Hedman's, but it looks like there are issues here too. A factory style manifold is appealing in a lot of ways...

The performance was definitely seat of the pants improvement over the factory manifolds.

Did you get yours tightened up?
The collectors? No they are bottomed out. There's nothing more I could do with them. The driverside was worse so I cut the ball and socket collector off and welded in a reducer. So now its welded solid and leak free. I just need to do the passenger side.

Yes I meant the collectors. I think I am going to order up the stainless version on these.

Got my 69830s installed. They fit very well and clear everything as this thread has attested to. I went to take it to the exhaust shop to get it mated up to the old exhaust and made it about a mile from the house before the starter wire burned into the header and shorted :doah:. There's no fuse in the starter wire so it melted the terminal out of the battery. Had to get it towed home. Got it all fixed, but had to buy a new battery. I feel like a dope for not checking ahead of time. Just a common-sense warning for others.

...and I still didn't get the exhaust hooked up.

At least it wasn't a harness full of individual connections. I'm always a little paranoid about the harness running near the headers on the driver's side rear. It's pretty close and what a PITA it would be to repair back there.

Dyeager535 pointed me to this thread, thanks again for all your help.

I have read for hours of pages & pages about headers.
Looks like the headman elite are the way to go.
Can anyone confirm that the 69830's will fit an
86 k30 with a 96 L31 vortec 5.7, 4l80, 205 ???

I know that I will need to add o2 bungs to each side but right now just trying to confirm fitment in truck without shackle issues.

Thanks in advance.

I think you only have two things to answer: one is the K30 portion, since the frames were a bit different. Only isue is if the shackles are in a different location than the K10/20's, did you read this whole thread to see if anyone has used them in a K30?

Other concern I see is the 4L80E. I don't know enough about them to know if the shift linkage is in a different location that might be an issue. The way the 69830's dump though, I'm guessing the collectors are far enough "forward" to clear. See onetonbb74's pics above. Only issue here would be if the shift linkage is somewhere else other than where the 700's is. I'd expect both to be in same location, but I can't guarantee that.

Should be no fitment issues if you can get the above two answered.
